About this opportunity
The Buffalo Zoo is soliciting bids for repair and replacement of concrete walkways and benches at the Big Horn Sheep exhibit, reference BSSP-10A, with proposals due August 31, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. EST. MWBE contracting goals of 15% for both Minority Business Enterprises and Women Business Enterprises apply.
The scope encompasses demolition and removal of two existing concrete bench areas (approximately 130 and 205 square feet respectively) and adjacent walkways, followed by installation of new concrete pads with minimum 3.5-inch thickness reinforced with rebar and wire mesh, sloped ramps to meet ADA requirements, and new benches matching existing conditions. The existing concrete exhibits spalling, crumbling, and cracking; bench frames are concrete with pressure-treated lumber seats. Two additive alternatives are available: Add/Alt #1 provides new benches using composite wood product and stainless steel fasteners with contractor-selected color; Add/Alt #2 removes concrete walkway and benches with replacement concrete pad matching current footprint without new benches.
The project is located at 300 Parkside Avenue, Buffalo, New York (Erie County). Construction scheduling is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with pre-approval required for work outside these hours. Site visits must be arranged in advance by contacting Joe Cyrek at 716-559-1037.
All bid packages must include detailed scope of work, comprehensive proposal with material and labor cost breakouts, New York State Certified apprenticeship training program certification, MWBE and SDVOB Utilization Plan (Empire State Development form OCSD-4), signed Contractor Code of Conduct form, insurance certificates, bonding information, and warranty information. The contractor is responsible for acquiring all required permits and maintaining OSHA compliance. Proposals may be submitted by mail, in-person delivery at gate #1, or email to JCyrek@buffalozoo.org.
