The Town of Ayer, Massachusetts Department of Public Works is requesting sealed general contractor bids for Barnum Road Bridge Rehabilitation, with bids due August 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Bidders must hold Massachusetts Department of Transportation pre-qualification in the Bridge - Construction class — a mandatory eligibility filter.
The scope covers concrete repairs to the 85-year-old bridge deck slab underside, sidewalk slab, pile caps, and wingwalls to address cracking, spalling, and delamination; slope stabilization to remedy erosion; and replacement of guardrail systems with MASH-compliant alternatives.
The estimated project value is $771,710. The Notice to Proceed is anticipated no earlier than April 5, 2027, with a 180-calendar-day completion timeline following Notice to Proceed. The contract is governed by M.G.L. Chapter 30, Section 39M. Prevailing wage rates under M.G.L. Chapter 149, Sections 26-27D apply. The successful bidder must furnish 100 percent Performance Bond and 100 percent Payment Bond with an acceptable surety company.
Bidders must submit a 5 percent bid security. Bids may not be withdrawn for 60 days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, after bid opening. A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for July 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the DPW office at 25 Brook Street, Ayer, with a site walk to follow if necessary. Contract documents are available electronically at https://www.ayer.ma.us/bids. The Town reserves the right to waive any informality or reject any or all bids.
