About this opportunity

Mississippi State University is seeking to purchase replacement fire alarm system components from Firetrol Protection Systems under a sole-source procurement, with objections due July 22, 2026.

The scope comprises seven monitor modules, six smoke detectors, three heat detectors, and four pull stations for the Riley Center. These components are necessary to enable communication with newly installed Notifier fire alarm panels replaced in 2025; the existing devices in the building are original to the facility's initial installation approximately 20 years ago. The university classifies this as sole source because Firetrol Protection Systems is the only authorized regional distributor and service provider for Notifier fire alarm systems in the area, and therefore the only practical source for the required proprietary parts and specialized service expertise.

The estimated cost is $6,138. Mississippi State University conducted a three-year evaluation process with the Riley Center and Environmental Health and Safety to determine that Firetrol is the only viable vendor capable of servicing this need. The university also reviewed existing service contracts with Firetrol to confirm that device replacement services are not already covered under current agreements.

Any party objecting to the sole-source designation must submit written notice to Jennifer Mayfield, CPPO Director of Procurement Services, at Mississippi State University with detailed documentation supporting an alternative source. The university will either withdraw the sole-source request for competitive bidding or appeal to the Public Procurement Review Board following receipt of objections.
