About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command, operating through the Defense Health Agency, is seeking conceptually innovative and high-impact research proposals addressing tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) through the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP) Idea Development Award. This competitive grant mechanism supports research in mechanistic studies, animal model development, biomarkers, therapeutics, and patient-centered investigations across focus areas including neuropsychiatric disorders, epilepsy treatment, tumor and cyst prevention, and maternal-fetal reproductive health. The program accommodates both established investigators at all career levels and new-to-the-field investigators (early faculty or established researchers transitioning into TSC research), with separate competition tracks for each category. Applications undergo a rigorous two-tier review process consisting of peer review for technical merit and programmatic review evaluating technical merit, military relevance, and funding priorities. Critical deadlines include the pre-application Letter of Intent submission deadline of July 23, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, the full application deadline of August 6, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, with peer review scheduled for November 2026 and programmatic review for February 2027.
Approximately $3.20 million is available to fund approximately four awards with individual cost caps of $0.80 million per award and a maximum performance period of three years. Awards supported with FY26 funds expire for obligated use on September 30, 2032, with awards to be made no later than September 30, 2027. Research will be conducted at eligible extramural and intramural Department of War organizations, including foreign and domestic for-profit and nonprofit entities, with applications requiring completion of standard federal forms, a 10-page project narrative, technical and lay abstracts, statements of work and impact, and adherence to rigorous study design standards. The program does not support clinical trials, painful domestic animal research, or classified research.
Synopsis
Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP) Idea Development Award (IDA) supports conceptually innovative and high-impact research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) research and/or improvements in patient care.
Distinctive Features: This funding mechanism allows for established and new-to-the-field investigators. New-to-the-field investigators are independent investigators that are early in their faculty appointments and/or established investigators transitioned from other research fields into TSC research. Applications to the New-to-the-Field option will compete separately from the Established Investigators submitting to the regular Idea Development Award (IDA).
