About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Medical Command, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is soliciting applications for the Prostate Cancer Research Program Idea Development Award with a full application deadline of September 2, 2026. Applicants must address one of four FY26 overarching challenges: improving health and survivorship for those impacted by prostate cancer; developing new treatments for lethal prostate cancer; enhancing clinical care with special emphasis on high-risk groups; and defining the biology of prostate cancer progression. Clinical trials are prohibited.

Eligible applicants include unrestricted categories: extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic entities, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and public and private entities. The Principal Investigator must be an independent investigator affiliated with an eligible organization. New Investigator applicants—those within 10 years of terminal degree completion—must identify at least one collaborator with demonstrated prostate cancer research experience.

The FY26 appropriation totals $75 million. Approximately 8 Established Investigator awards will fund $1.7 million per award over three years; approximately 10 New Investigator awards will fund $2.1 million per award over four years. The pre-application Letter of Intent is due August 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Full applications from extramural organizations submit through Grants.gov; intramural DOW organizations submit through eBRAP. Required components include a 15-page Project Narrative, Technical Abstract, Lay Abstract, Statement of Work, Impact Statement, Innovation Statement, and supporting documentation. Preliminary data is encouraged but not required. All projects must adhere to rigorous study design standards such as ARRIVE 2.0 guidelines for animal studies. Changes in Principal Investigator are not permitted except under extenuating circumstances. Organizational transfers are not allowed in the final year of performance. Peer review is scheduled for November 2026; programmatic review in March 2027. The Assistance Listing / CFDA number is 12.420.

Synopsis

Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) Idea Development Award (IDA) supports new ideas that represent innovative approaches to prostate cancer research and have the potential to make an important contribution to the PCRP mission. All applications must address one of the FY26 PCRP Overarching Challenges.

Distinctive Features:

· New Investigator Category: In addition to established investigators, the FY26 PCRP Idea Development Award encourages research ideas from investigators in the early stages of their careers (i.e., within 10 years after completion of their terminal degree). Qualified new investigators must identify a collaborator(s) experienced in prostate cancer research.
