About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Prostate Cancer Research Program Data Science Award to support research developing or using quantitative and analytical approaches to obtain knowledge from large or complex prostate cancer datasets, with a pre-application deadline of August 12, 2026 and full application deadline of September 2, 2026.
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic, for-profit and nonprofit entities, with no restrictions on applicant type. The funding mechanism allows multiple Principal Investigators, with only the initiating PI submitting a pre-application; all PIs must submit full applications, and partnering PI applications are abbreviated packages addressing their distinct portion of the research. All associated applications may be withdrawn if the initiating or partnering application is rejected or administratively withdrawn.
Supported research areas include analysis of clinically annotated datasets, -omics data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning, bioinformatics, computational biology, digital pathology, epidemiology, and medical imaging. All applications must address one of four FY26 PCRP Overarching Challenges: improving overall health and survivorship for those impacted by prostate cancer; developing new treatments for lethal prostate cancer; enhancing clinical care for all patients with special emphasis on high-risk groups; or defining the biology of prostate cancer progression to lethal disease.
The program anticipates approximately $5.6 million to fund approximately 4 applications with a total cost cap of $1.4 million per award and maximum 3-year period of performance. Clinical trials, prospective human subject recruitment, new dataset development, animal research, and equipment purchases are not supported. Peer review occurs in November 2026, programmatic review in March 2027, and awards will be made no later than September 30, 2027, using FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032. The funding mechanism is identified under CFDA 12.420 (Military Medical Research and Development).
Synopsis
Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) Data Science Award (DSA) supports research that develops or uses quantitative and analytical approaches, processes and/or systems to obtain knowledge and insight from large and/or complex sets of prostate cancer data in one or more of the following research areas: Analysis of clinically annotated datasets; analysis of -omics data; artificial intelligence and machine learning; bioinformatics; computational biology; digital pathology; epidemiology; and medical imaging. All applications must address one of the FY26 PCRP Overarching Challenges.
Distinctive Features: This funding mechanism allows for multiple Principal Investigators (PIs). Only the initiating PI will submit a pre-application, but all PIs will need to submit full applications. The partnering PI application is an abbreviated package specific to their distinct portion of the research project. Be advised, all associated applications for a research project may be withdrawn if the initiating or partnering application is rejected or administratively withdrawn.
