About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is soliciting applications for the Melanoma Research Program Survivorship Research Award with a full application deadline of October 14, 2026 (pre-application deadline September 22, 2026). Approximately $2.04 million will fund two awards with a total cost cap of $1.02 million per award. Applicants are unrestricted by entity type—eligible organizations include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War entities, foreign and domestic organizations, for-profit and nonprofit entities.
The program addresses melanoma-specific survivorship through innovative research improving health and well-being of melanoma survivors, families, and care partners. Proposed studies focusing exclusively on animal models or addressing survival without consideration of quality of life, overall health, or function are not responsive. Clinical trials are allowed. A mandatory distinctive requirement is inclusion of at least one melanoma consumer collaborator—defined as a melanoma survivor, family member, care partner, or melanoma-community supporting organization—to provide lived experience expertise and support planning, execution, and implementation.
The named Principal Investigator must be an independent investigator at or above the Assistant Professor level. The maximum period of performance is three years. Allowable research areas include preservation of function and symptom management, psychological and social impacts of melanoma diagnosis and treatment, treatment outcomes, and healthcare delivery improvements.
Applications undergo two-tier review: peer review for technical merit (December 2026) and programmatic review for funding recommendations (March 2027). Extramural organizations submit full applications through Grants.gov; intramural Department of War organizations submit through eBRAP. Awards are funded with FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032, with awards made no later than September 30, 2027.
CFDA 12.420.
Synopsis
Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Melanoma Research Program (MRP) Survivorship Research Award addresses the relatively new and underfunded area of melanoma-specific survivorship by supporting a broad range of innovative and impactful research that has the intended outcome of improving the health and well-being of melanoma survivors, their families and/or their care partners in the near term. Distinctive Features:
· The application must include at least one melanoma consumer collaborator, defined as a melanoma survivor, family member and/or care partner who can provide lived experience expertise to the research project team, or a melanoma-community supporting organization to support the planning, execution, and implementation of the proposed research.
· Clinical trials are allowed.
