About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, is soliciting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 Melanoma Research Program Idea Award with a pre-application deadline of July 13, 2026 and a full application deadline of October 14, 2026. Applicants are unrestricted by organization type. The program will fund approximately 10 awards with a total cost cap of $560,000 per award from a $5.6 million allocation. No cost share is required. The maximum period of performance is 2 years, with awards expected to be made no later than September 30, 2027 using FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032.
The Idea Award supports innovative, exploratory, high-risk/potentially high-reward research in three focus areas: Prevention and Interception (biomarkers, detection technologies, and mechanisms of melanoma initiation and progression), Rare Melanomas (addressing unmet needs across genetic, histologic, tissue origin, and clinical presentation variants), and Survivorship (psychological, social, and physical impacts on melanoma survivors and their families). Novelty and innovation are key evaluation aspects. Preliminary data are discouraged. Clinical trials are not permitted.
This opportunity uses a two-step application process. Investigators must submit a pre-application through eBRAP by July 13, 2026; invitations to submit full applications are expected August 19, 2026. Only invited applicants may submit full applications through Grants.gov (extramural) or eBRAP (intramural) by October 14, 2026. The Principal Investigator must be at or above postdoctoral fellow level. Peer review occurs in December 2026; programmatic review follows in March 2027. All applicants require organizational registration at SAM.gov, eBRAP.org, and Grants.gov.
The program falls under CFDA 12.420, Military Medical Research and Development.
