The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Alzheimer's Research Program Transforming Diagnosis Award, with full applications due September 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Awards are capped at $1.5 million for single principal investigator submissions and $1.7 million combined for the Career Initiation or Transition (CIT) Partnership Option, with approximately $3.2 million allocated to fund roughly two awards.
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, domestic and foreign entities, and for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Independent investigators affiliated with eligible organizations may serve as PI regardless of citizenship status; postdoctoral and clinical fellows are ineligible. The CIT Partnership Option requires at least one investigator meeting CIT eligibility criteria at the time of application submission.
The program supports non-incremental, solutions-oriented research that reduces or overcomes important barriers to obtaining Alzheimer's disease and related dementias diagnosis, meaningful disease monitoring, and accurate prognosis. Clinical research is permitted; clinical trials and animal research are prohibited. Preliminary data are required, and community collaboration is mandatory for studies prospectively enrolling human subjects. Applicants must demonstrate a clear pathway to clinical applicability, address health disparities, leverage existing cohorts or datasets where possible, and include representation of intended beneficiary populations. Studies leveraging cohorts of individuals 65 years or younger are encouraged.
The maximum period of performance is four years, with FY26 funds expiring September 30, 2032, and awards made no later than September 30, 2027. The application process is two-tiered: pre-applications are due June 22, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET; invitations to submit full applications will be issued August 10, 2026. Peer review occurs December 2026 and programmatic review February 2027. Applications are evaluated under CFDA 12.420, Military Medical Research and Development.
