About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command, through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), is soliciting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 Alzheimer's Research Program Transforming Care Award supporting clinical research and clinical trials evaluating interventions, innovations, and solutions in dementia care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease related dementia (AD/ADRD) and their care partner(s), with pre-applications due June 22, 2026 and full applications due September 24, 2026.
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, domestic and foreign organizations, for-profit and nonprofit entities, and public or private entities. CDMRP expects to allocate approximately $5.4 million to fund approximately three awards, with total cost caps of $1.6 million per award for single Principal Investigator applications and $1.9 million combined for the Career Initiation or Transition (CIT) Partnership Option, which supports both new and existing collaborative partnerships and requires at least one independent investigator to meet CIT Partnership Option eligibility requirements at the time of application submission.
The maximum period of performance is four years. Clinical trials solely testing or evaluating pharmacological interventions and studies utilizing animal models do not meet the intent of this funding opportunity. Preliminary data are required. Community collaboration is required for research prospectively enrolling human subjects. Research must be non-incremental, solution-oriented with a clear pathway to clinical application, include manualization to ensure consistency and replicability, consider sex as a biological variable, and demonstrate robust recruitment and retention plans. The CDMRP encourages studies leveraging existing cohorts and datasets, including cohorts consisting of individuals 65 years or younger.
Pre-applications are due through eBRAP by June 22, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. ET. Full applications are due September 24, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET through Grants.gov for extramural organizations or eBRAP for intramural DOW organizations. Peer review occurs in December 2026 and programmatic review in February 2027, with awards anticipated by September 30, 2027. The program is assigned CFDA 12.420 (Military Medical Research and Development).
