About this opportunity
The Bureau of Justice Assistance is soliciting applications for the FY 2026 Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Program with an application deadline of October 15, 2026 and a mandatory eligibility requirement that applicants operate a state or local database or registry containing covered information as defined by the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act of 2022.
Eligible applicants are state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, federally recognized tribal governments, and agencies of any of these entities, including towns, boroughs, parishes, villages, or other general purpose political subdivisions and agencies operating relevant databases or registries. No cost share is required.
The program funds two categories with separate award ceilings: Category 1 (Program Implementation) supports applicants establishing new protection programs with awards up to $200,000, and Category 2 (Program Enhancement) supports applicants with existing programs seeking to expand capabilities with awards up to $500,000. Total available funding is up to $6,526,269, with 15 anticipated awards for Category 1 and 7 for Category 2. The grant period is 36 months beginning October 1, 2026.
Grant funds must be used exclusively for protecting federal judges and their immediate family members as defined in statute. Allowable uses include creating redaction or removal programs, expanding existing protection programs, developing or improving protocols and policies, modifying databases and registries, and developing confidential opt-out systems. Applicants with existing judicial protection programs must clearly delineate how grant funds will be used solely for federal judges and describe cost allocation methodologies to ensure appropriate separation of expenses. Expenses benefiting multiple judge categories are acceptable provided costs specific to state, local, or tribal judges are separately tracked and not charged to this grant.
The 15-page proposal narrative is weighted as follows: Description of the Need (5%), Project Goals and Objectives (15%), Project Design and Implementation (40%), Capabilities and Competencies (25%), and Budget (15%). Recipients must submit mandatory annual reports detailing expenditures and performance metrics.
The CFDA number is 16.074. A two-step submission process is required: SF-424 submission in Grants.gov by September 3, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET, followed by full application submission in JustGrants by September 10, 2026 at 8:59 p.m. ET.
Synopsis
This is a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for the BJA FY 2026 Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Program. This opportunity supports states and units of local government, including tribal governments that perform law enforcement functions, in creating and expanding efforts to protect the safety and security of federal judges by preventing the release of covered information about at-risk individuals and their immediate family members to ensure federal judges are able to administer justice fairly without fear of personal reprisal from individuals affected by the decisions they make in the course of carrying out their public duties. Many federal judges' personal information resides in state and local government records, databases, and registries that are publicly accessible and searchable and outside federal control. Grants to state and local entities support federal-state-local partnerships to protect federal judicial officers and their families. Funds awarded under this grant program must be used exclusively for protecting federal judges and their immediate family members as defined in statute. Applicants that have existing judicial protection programs should clearly delineate how grant funds will be used solely for federal judges and describe cost allocation methodologies to ensure appropriate separation of expenses. Expenses that also benefit other judges are acceptable, provided that any costs specific to state, local, or tribal judges are separately tracked and are not charged to this grant.
