About this opportunity
Paragraph 1:
The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is conducting market research on Standard Missile Rocket Motor (MK72 Booster and MK104 Dual Thrust Rocket Motor) production capabilities. This Request for Information (RFI) seeks information on the rocket motor and booster production capabilities that could be used for SM-2/SM-6 full rate production, or to supplement existing rocket motor production capabilities. NAVSEA is particularly interested in information on affordability and technical readiness of a SM-2/SM-6 production effort for acquisition in the FY26-FY27 timeframe, or sooner. Respondents should provide information on their production capabilities, cost drivers, relevant technology risk areas, and anticipated development timelines.
Paragraph 2:
This RFI is not set aside for any particular business size category. NAVSEA is seeking information from all interested parties, including small businesses. The RFI responses will not be evaluated for award, and no contract will result from this market research effort. The information obtained may be used by the government in the development of a future procurement strategy. Respondents will not be notified of the results of this RFI, and the government makes no commitment to issue a solicitation for the requirements described.
Notice text
This notice is a Request for Information (RFI) as defined in FAR 15.201(e). The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is conducting market research on Standard Missile Rocket Motor (MK72 Booster and MK104 Dual Thrust Rocket Motor) production capabilities.
SM-2/SM-6 is the premier fleet defense weapon of US Navy providing Over-the-horizon capability across platforms. SM-6 leverages Aegis Weapon System, Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) and airborne early warning systems, and supports a fully integrated, extended-range, detect-to-engage capability for U.S. Navy Aegis cruisers, destroyers and future combatants. This RFI seeks information on the rocket motor and booster production capabilities that could be used for SM-2/SM-6 full rate production, or to supplement already existing rocket motor production capabilities. Particular emphasis should be placed on affordability and technical readiness of a SM-2/SM-6 production effort for acquisition in the FY26-FY27 timeframe, or sooner.
NAVSEA invites all interested parties, including small business concerns, to submit written information sufficient to demonstrate the respondent's ability to fulfill the requirements. For those interested parties that have technologies which may not achieve a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 8-9 by FY2026, please provide information on current research and development efforts that may address some or all requirements of this RFI beyond FY2026.
The Navy is conducting market research to identify qualified and responsible sources that may be interested in the requirements described in this notice. This RFI is issued for informational and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or a Request for Quote (RFQ). This RFI is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or award a contract.
