About this opportunity
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency issued a Request for Information on Next Generation Hypersonic Cruise Missiles with responses due November 6, 2026; this RFI is non-binding and designed to refine technical requirements and acquisition strategy for a potential future competitive Program Solicitation, with no formal commitment to fund any resulting proposals.
DARPA encourages innovative teaming between traditional and non-traditional defense contractors, technology developers, and specialized test and evaluation providers, with independent funding available for some focus areas. The RFI addresses three focus areas: FA1 (system-level architectural concepts for air-breathing hypersonic cruise missiles across multiple launch platform constraints, design-for-manufacturing integration, and accelerated development); FA3 (high-risk, high-reward enabling technologies including air-breathing propulsion, high-energy-density fuels, advanced materials, thermal management, and thermal protection systems); and FA4 (innovative test and evaluation concepts, autonomous telemetry, advanced data assimilation, and novel flight test architectures scalable to 250–2,000 nautical mile distances). Respondents may address one, two, or all three areas.
Responses must not exceed 15 single-sided pages (11-point font, 1-inch margins) in Word, PowerPoint, or PDF format and should be submitted unclassified to DARPA-SN-26-93@darpa.mil. Classified submissions follow separate procedures detailed in security attachments. DARPA held an in-person Industry Day in September 2026 in Arlington, Virginia, with a post-event participant directory supporting organic teaming.
