About this opportunity
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency seeks proposals through its Reimagining Protein Manufacturing program to develop technologies enabling immediate synthesis of bioactive protein medical countermeasures and production enzymes within 24 hours at a yield of at least 500 doses per week. Evaluation will assess advancement of production yield and time reduction as well as controlled addition of post-translational modifications to proteins through capability demonstrations at defined intervals. Proposals are due November 16, 2021 to address technical areas including increased production yield and time reduction as well as incorporation of post-translational modifications.
There is no set-aside designation for this opportunity. Multiple awards are anticipated for research conducted over a base period of 26 months and optional second period of 24 months. Key metrics include production of 500 doses per week within approximately 24 hours to establish foundational technologies for distributed, on-demand manufacturing of protein-based medical countermeasures and ensure timely Defense Department access to critical therapeutic proteins.
Notice text
The Reimagining Protein Manufacturing (RPM) program aims to ensure timely DoD access to critical medical countermeasures (MCMs) by establishing the foundational technologies needed for fully distributed, on-demand manufacturing of protein-based MCMs and associated raw materials. To achieve this goal, RPM will develop technologies to enable immediate synthesis (lead time approximately 24 hours) of bioactive protein MCMs and raw material production enzymes at a yield corresponding to > 500 doses per week. This technology will allow the DoD to rapidly secure access to both therapeutic proteins and enzymes needed for nucleic acid-based MCM synthesis, and reduce reliance on complex supply chains.
