About this opportunity

The Department of Energy Office of Science, through the Alliance for Energy Innovation LLC on behalf of the National Laboratory of the Rockies, issued a Request for Information on August 5, 2026 to conduct market research on pilot-scale hollow fiber fabrication line capabilities, with responses due by August 27, 2026 at 5:00 PM Mountain Time.

The RFI seeks information on current vendor capabilities to supply a flexible, modular pilot-scale hollow fiber membrane production line capable of single, dual, or triple extrusion methods with extensive control over fabrication parameters. Minimum required capabilities include fiber pulling and winding systems operating at 2–35 m/min, maximum 35-foot line length, three mixing vessels and three supply vessels (minimum 5 liters each, double-walled, stainless steel or Hastelloy construction), heated dope solution pumping with in-line filtration, a temperature and humidity-controlled extrusion spinneret (10–80% relative humidity at 0.1–2.0 slpm nitrogen), multiple coagulation and rinse baths with recirculation and temperature control, modular construction, and a comprehensive control system recording all sensor outputs.

Respondents must submit 2–5 page responses in PDF format to ASP.Responses@nlr.gov addressing company information, technical approach, rough order of magnitude pricing, and nine technical questions covering configurability, sensor integration, membrane research and development experience, line speed options, human-machine interface capabilities, utility requirements, bath material compatibility, bath water replacement options, and safety features. Applicable NAICS code is 333248 (All Other Industrial Machinery Manufacturing). The RFI is market research only; responding does not guarantee inclusion in any forthcoming RFP, and response development costs will not be reimbursed. Sufficient qualified responses will determine if a total small business set-aside is appropriate for any resulting RFP.
