Notice text
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Center for Grain and Animal Health Research, Manhattan, Kansas, intends to enter into a single source contract with Dust-Quant LLC, Las Vegas, Nevada, for a Minature Portable In-Situ Wind Erosion Lab (MPS-2). PI-SWERL is a field dust measurement device being evaluated by the military for use in determining the level of "dustiness" generated by trafficking vehicles on unpaved roads. This device is required for a funded military porposal to correlate the PI-SWERL measurements between the "unpaved road" work done by past researchers and the work proposed on "off-road" military training lands. This is the only device that can be used for an "apples to apples" comparison as required in the research outline. Other dust measurement devices are inadequate alternatives as it is a new device where correlations and consistency of results between the PI-SWERL and other measurement methods have not yet been fully explored and documented. Besides the funded military project, the device will be useful in future wind erosion related studies as well. Other interested parties may submit questions and/or qualifications statements by Close of Business Setember 06, 2010.
