RESPONSES TO RFI
1. Q: Is the existing street lighting required to remain in service while the new work is being performed or can the existing street lighting power be removed as part of the new work?
Answer: The existing street lighting power does not need to remain in service. The existing street lighting service can be removed.
2. Q: If the existing street lighting service can be removed, then who will be responsible for disconnecting the existing power?
Answer: Government electricians will confirm that power is off on existing service to lights.
3. Q: Is the intent of the work to have the new duct bank primarily located under the roadway or can the new work be located off the edge of road so as to limit the amount of roadway restoration to only what is necessary as a result of crossing the road and/or parking areas?
Answer: The layout of the new duct bank was shown installed under the road to avoid potential impacts to existing utilities and a drainage swale adjacent to the road. Contractors can choose to alter the layout to be off the edge of road. Contractor will be responsible to protect utilities encountered and restore all disturbed areas to pre‐conditions.
4. Q: Is there a laydown area that will be available to the Contractor for storage of materials and equipment? If so, where is it located in relation to the work?
Answer: Laydown area will be established and available for storage. Exact location and size to be established after award. For bidding purposes assume laydown area is within 250 feet of north end of Ed Moffit Drive.
5. Q: Are the electric manholes level to the pavement on the edge of the road?
Answer: Top of manholes shall be level with pavement.
6. Q: Is this the only conduit we disturb when we tie into the poles?
W912WJ-16-Q-0138
Answer: It is possible that other conduits will be encountered when installing new conduits to the poles. Contractor is responsible to protect existing utilities encountered.
7. Q: is this job Eversource related ?
Answer: The existing power service to the light poles is not provided by Eversource. The existing power service is owned by the Corps of Engineers. Government electricians will confirm that power is off for the lights.
