SUMMARY OF CHANGES
SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE (SF 30)
The following have been added by full text:
Q & A
W912521B0009 Old Hickory Electronic Service Section Roof Replacement
Questions and Answers Amendment 0001
Q1: What is the thickness of the existing insulation on the roof and how is it fastened?
A: The existing EPDM material is expected to be two (2) layers of .045mil thickness, .09mil total.
Q2: Were moisture tests done on or before the pre-bid visit to determine percentage of wet or damaged insulation?
A: Moisture tests were not conducted prior to the pre bid visit. Water damage is expected to be in approximately 500sq ft. See section 01 22 00 paragraph 1.2.5.1 “Base - Item 05 - Replace Saturated or Damage Insulation”.
Q3: The term “loose laid” was the term used in the specs. Does this mean the field sheets will kept in place by ballast alone with no other means of adhesion or fastening?
A: Ballasted roofs are loose-laid, meaning roofing materials, including the insulation and roof membrane, are not fastened to one another or to the roof deck. Adjoining EPDM sheets are spliced together, and the membrane and insulation are held down with a minimum of 10 pounds of ballast per square foot
Q4: Will there be a warranty required and if so, what is the duration and what will be its stipulations?
A: Specifications and product data specify warranty durations. See Section 07 54 19 paragraphs 1.9.1 through 1.9.3 “Roof Membrane Manufacturer Warranty”.
Q5: In the specs, 24 gauge galvanized steel is identified for parapet coping- is this going to be a prefinished steel or a paint grip? if there is a pre-finished, what is the preferred color?
A: The existing 24 gauge galvanized steel will be salvaged to reuse for the new roof replacement. See section 07 54 19 paragraph 3.3.2.2 “Flashing”.
Q6: Is there a cleat required for the coping and flashing? if so, the detailed plan drawing did not reveal this.
A: A 22 gauge galvanized steel cleat is present according to section “3 Cap Flashing @ Beam” on drawings Q15- 74/36.1. Therefore, cleats are believed to be present. Additional cleats may be required if damaged or required according to manufacturer specifications.
Q7: In the sheet metal schedule, is this to be a seamless or 10’ gutter sections as is typical with COE jobs?
A: Gutter sections replacement is not within the scope of the contract. If damaged by contractor, replace gutter sections with 10ft gutter sections as typical with COE jobs.
Q8: Are there going to be set workdays and work hours or is this flexible?
A: Monday through Friday: 0730 to 1600 (from specifications 01 00 00 3.1.4 “Coordination with the Government”)
– Different hours may be requested.
Q9: Is the building in any kind of restricted area that requires special clearance or passes?
A: Contractor shall follow requirements of 01 35 50 “PROJECT SITE SECURITY AND AT/OPSEC PROCEDURES” before gaining site access.
W912P521B0009
Q10: Were photos taken at the site visit and are they available to us for us to review?
A: Vendors who attended the site visit took their own pictures, so those pictures will not be made available.
However, the Government has pictures of the site that will provided as a separate attachment.
Q11: Would we be able to see a core sample to determine the thickness of insulation under the roof?
A: No, core samples will not be available prior to bid opening.
Q12: Is there another method the Corps would propose to determine the thickness of the roof?
A: Please see the Government’s response to question 1.
Q13: Please clarify the building subsurface material.
A: Subsurface material is ribbed metal decking, see drawing Q15/75-36.1.
