Q & A Questions and Answers 1-7 are in reference to Drawing 64N315.pdf, changes and clarifications reflected in replacement drawing 64W315.pdf;
Questions and Answers 8-12 are in reference to Technical Specifications “05 50 14 STRUCTURAL METAL FABRICATIONS.pdf”
1. Industry Question/Comment: How should the following marks be interpreted? <R>?
Answer: Marks represented as “<R>” are to show that there shall be no rough edges. These will be removed and a note will be added to say, “All sharp corners and rough edges shall be grounded smooth.”
2. Industry Question/Comment: What is the meaning of the note at C-6 on the drawing:
“ROUGH TURN TO SHAFT DIAM (TYPICAL)?”
Answer: Note should be pointing to the top of the strut end connection with the strut body. The note calls for the strut end to be turned approximately to the strut body diameter. The note will be reworded to say, “MACHINE STRUT END ROUGHLY TO SHAFT DIAMETER (TYPICAL).”
3. Industry Question/Comment: It appears that the 3” wide “blades’ of the -4 Intermediate and -6 Upper Strut End are intended to fit into slots in the -5 Upper Strut Body but no weld symbol is shown.
Answer: The weld detail is shown in the lower strut assembly as typical. It is a ½” bevel weld grinded down smooth to surface. Detail will be copied over for more clarity.
4. Industry Question/Comment: The -4 Intermediate and -6 Upper Strut End about the =-5 Upper Strut Body but no weld symbol is shown.
Answer: The weld detail is shown in the lower strut assembly as typical. It is a ½” bevel weld grinded down smooth to surface. Detail will be copied over for more clarity.
5. Industry Question/Comment: What is the function of the 1-1/16 x 4-1/8 slot in the pipe portion of the -25 Collar?
Answer: The guide screw (MK64N315-17) shall fit into this slot so that there is no lateral movement or turning of the collar. This guide screw will be included in the contract.
6. Industry Question/Comment: In the notes on drawing 64W315 at F-11, reference is made to Drawing 64N306 for General Arrangement and Bill of Material. This drawing is not supplied in the RFQ package.
Answer: This note was a part of the original drawing, and it does not contain essential information to the contract; however, it will be added as a, “for information only drawing.”
7. Industry Question/Comment: In the title block of drawing 64N315 it is noted that the drawing is in Autocad format. Can the Contractor have access to the drawing in its native format?
Answer: We have the drawing in Microstation (.dgn) format, and we can supply the drawing to the contractor after the contract is awarded.
8. Industry Question/Comment: Section 2.1.1.1 and 2.1.1.3 of state that the Intermediate and Upper Strut End forging are to have a surface finish of 125. Does this require overall machining of surfaces which would normally be in an “as forged” condition, or only to working surfaces?
Answer: Apply the 125 finish where surfaces will come into contact with another component. When these components are not in contact with another component, the “as forged” condition of the steel is adequate. Additional detail will be added in the specification section.
9. Industry Question/Comment: Section 2.3, NDT, Is the inspection method for the welds to be per 2.3.1.2.2.1, per
2.3.1.2.2.2 or per 2.3.1.2.2.3 to be selected at the Contractor’s discretion?
Answer: Yes, visual inspection and another form of NDT for the contractor to submit for approval is required for all welds (see section 2.3.1).
10. Industry Question/Comment: Section 2.1.1.8 describes the grease seals as made from standard rubber but on the drawing 64N315 the seals appear to be of a manufactured type such as Garlock.
Answer: Manufacturer standard rubber is adequate.
11. Industry Question/Comment: Sections 1.6.1 and 3.5 require shop and as built drawings. How great a detail is envisioned? Can the drawings consist of views same as on the furnished drawing 64N315?
Answer: Each component shall be detailed separately. Multiple items can be included on the same drawing, but each component shall be drawn and detailed separately. Additional detail will be added to sections 1.6.1 and 3.5.
12. Industry Question/Comment: For clarification purposes, (4) culvert valve strut arm assemblies as per drawing 64W315. The radius frame assemblies on drawing 64N316 will not be part of the proposal, correct?
Answer: Paragraph 2.1 MATERIALS in specification section 05 50 14 STRUCTURAL METAL FABRICTIONS show what is to be fabricated under this contract. Correct, the radius frame assemblies are not to be fabricated.
