1.2 Background: The Indiana Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Command intends to purchase advertising space and marketing opportunity across Social Media platforms and at key student-activities events at Indiana’s two largest college campuses of Indiana University and Purdue University. Because of these two universities, Monroe and Tippecanoe counties are the 3rd and 4th best counties for military-age population, with 40,870 and 44,686 military-aged people respectively. As social media becomes the primary way in which college-aged people receive and share information, the INARNG looks to take advantage of this tool by using it to extensively market to college students in a way not done previously. Social media engagement, while costly, provides the ability to target very specific demographics within colleges, and target those groups with a specific message catered precisely to their current and potential needs. Examples of this would be the ability to target freshman/sophomores with ads regarding tuition assistance, recent graduates with ads regarding student loan repayment benefits, and law school students/nursing students with information on Specialty Branch enlistment incentives in the INARNG. Furthermore, investment in social media-based advertising allows for the best traceability of ROI/lead generation, and adjustments to marketing strategy based on live, continuous feedback. The Indiana Army National Guard also seeks to have the opportunity to engage at some level in student recreational activities events on both campuses as well. IU, Purdue, and the Indiana Army National Guard have had a healthy relationship in previous years creating a positive atmosphere for recruiters and community members alike on their campuses allowing for growth within the INARNG ranks.
