QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR VOLK FIELD REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
REPAIR ROAD, MUNITION STORAGE W912J2-11-R-0002
1. Should Contractor figure replacing all line striping and other pavement markings within the project limits? If yes, what total qty shall we figure into the bid.
Answer: There is no current line striping in the Munitions Complex nor should any be expected in the final project, except what is called for currently in plans.
2. Confirm that Volk Field Security will provide all labor and cost required to maintain secure access at the proposed construction entrance @ bldg. 905 at no cost to Contractor.
Answer: Contractor will be responsible for providing necessary information to Volk Field CE/Munitions so that personnel can be added to the Munitions Entry Access List. Additionally, contractor will be required to provide a gate attendant if entry/exit is required beyond once at 0730 and once at 1600. Gate attendant will be issued a radio by Volk Security Forces and will be required to inspect trucks entering/leaving the site. If gate attendant was an off-duty member of Volk Field this would allow contractor access to the site after 1600 or prior to 0730 given that prior notice was given to the base. This attendant would not be able to open any munitions doors that might need to be moved, but would ensure general access to the work site.
3. Confirm that all sign frames attached to bldg. 906 can be removed and replaced by General Contractor: Removed prior to pulverizing/removals phase and replaced upon completion of asphalt paving.
Answer: Contractor has two options in this case. Option 1: Do not remove sign frames and work around area. Option 2: Contractor provides magnetic signs to be placed on doors during duration of project when sign frames are down. There are 26 doors. Each door requires a minimum of 1 sign. Approximately 1/3 of the doors require 3 signs. Signs must be 24” x 24”. If this option is chosen, contact Base Civil Engineering for exact signage requirements after award. Sign frames MUST be remounted upon completion of the project.

1. In Hdw Set #2, a DDUR C205 threshold is called out. Do you know who this manufacturer is, or what this model looks like so I can price an equal produuct? Plans say to see abbreviations in the spec, but I don't see any.
Answer: Durable Products CC205 threshold, Reese or Zero will be acceptable substitutes. Cross out note: “See Specification for Abbreviations” there is not a spec to reference.
2. The frame at #004B is called out as a wood frame in the door schedule. But when you go to the details 3/A511 and 4/A511 it shows the frame as hollow metal. Do you know what kind of frame is needed at #004B?
Answer: Details 3 and 4 on sheet A511 are correct, frame should be Hollow Metal.

Detail 8 on Drawing S-502 shows what I assume is an 8" CMU at the top of the wall where the joist bear. Should this block also be a 12" block assuming that the wall is a 12" CMU ? I cannot find the wall size on the plan and am assuming since the foundation wall is FW14. The FW14 wall type as shown in Detail 2/S-501 has a 2" ledge for the concrete. please clarify.
Answer: The wall is a 12” CMU wall. The block may be either an 8” or 12”, but will need to be cut to fit around the joist bearing point. (A 6” block can be used also as shown on drawing)
6. On the North wall of Workbay 020, can the dimensions be moved slightly for the Masonry Control Joints ( M.C.J. ) ? the dimensions 1-9" and 1'-9 3/4" are not modular dimension and per the detail 3/S-502 will cannot maintain fully grouted cores per the detail as the block will be required to be cut in small pieces. 1'-4" or 2'-0" dimensions are modular sizes. Please clarify
Answer: Yes, the dimensions may be modified to 2’-0” to keep the block on coursing with the MCJ. The middle MCJ may also be adjusted slightly to maintain coursing, provide a minimum of 16” clearance from MCJ and Door.
7. At the Office windows on Drawing A-401 we have the same condition with modular dimensions. Please clarify if these dimensions could be made modular.
Answer: Yes, this may be made to modular dimensions. Provide a minimum of 8” between MCJ and Window opening.
8. Could you provide a North / South overall dimension or the Office. The only dimension I can find is for the East / West which is 19'-4" Answer: Amendment is forthcoming (see attached) 9.
Attached please find A Threat Assessment Information Checklist need to obtain pricing from Kawneer. Are suppliers will need this information by Wed, Morning March 9th to have an opportunity to prices out.
Answer: Please see attached (below) completed threat assessment form from Kawneer (applies to Bldg 509 and Bldg 324).
NOTE: All information was indicated on drawings and specifications. (Sheet C-101, Spec Section 088000)
10. Here attached is a sketch of what the flashing might look like at the EIFS Termination above pavement detail. I didn't include any dimensions, gauge stainless or sawtooth/smooth reference (it might be that smooth is best) but would be happy to edit the drawing to make it a submittal to the architect. If so, please provide the actual dimensions. We suggest a 1" "kick" on the upper right hand side of the flashing profile and the downward leg at the bottom right hand side should about the "J" channel we presume is there to hold the EIFS
10. In Section 076200 Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim on Page 5, 2.4, A list's Through Wall Ribbed Sheet Metal Flashing. The type of flashing that is listed is typically used at the top of masonry walls where you have some type of stone coping. After speaking with several of the listed manufacturers they do not recommend this flashing for this application as this type of flashing cannot be bent so that the ribs can be interlocked.
Also with all the vertical re-rods, the flashing will need to be cut for the rods. See Detail's 6 & 7 on Drawing A-501.With the EIFS dropped below the top of the concrete foundation wall, there is nowhere for moisture to drain. Can the Architect provide an alternate detail if flashing is required.
Answer: Refer to EIFS Specification 072413, Part 2.2, Paragraphs C and M. These paragraphs cover the flexible membrane flashing and Trim accessories at base of EIFS and are to be supplied by installer.
