Clouter Creek Disposal Area, Berkeley County, SC

QUESTIONS/ANSWERS

Question: Section 02246 Paragraph 3.3.1 states that personnel "shall consist of a minimum of 1 operator for each piece of equipment specified, as well as a minimum of one oiler/laborer". Does this mean we are required to have one oiler/laborer for each piece of equipment?

Answer: NO, REQ'T FOR OILER IS MINIMUM OF ONE OILER FOR THE PROJECT.

Question: Section 02246 Paragraph 3.3.2.1 calls for each long reach excavator to be supplied with a trapezoidal "V" bucket. What are the required dimensions for the "V" bucket?

Answer: SAME CAPACITY AS FOR SPECIFIED DITCH-CLEANING BUCKET (MIN. 3/4 CY. HEAPED). ACTUAL DIMENSIONS AND SLOPE ANGLE ARE NOT SPECIFIED.

Question: As there are locations where standard fueling equipment will not be able to access the excavating equipment (i.e., long reach excavator on mats halfway across the cell), will the Contractor be paid for moving equipment to fuel accessible areas?

Answer: YES, THERE ARE LOCATIONS WHERE STANDARD FUELING EQUIPMENT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE EXCAVATOR. CONTRACTOR WILL NOT BE PAID TO MOVE THE DITCHING EQUIPMENT IN ORDER TO OBTAIN FUEL. FUELING TIME IS ON THE CONTRACTOR. PAYMENT IS ONLY FOR ACTUAL DITCHING TIME. SEE LAST SENTENCE OF PARA. 3.5. NOTE: SOME CONTRACTORS DRAG A SMALL FUEL TANK ON A MATT ALONGSIDE THE MACHINE AS THEY GO, UNTIL THEY REACH AN AREA WHERE THEY CAN REFUEL. SOME CONTRACTOR PERSONNEL HAND-CARRY FUEL IN 5-GAL. CANS TO THE MACHINE. BIDDER SHOULD EXAMINE THE SITE AND DETERMINE FOR HIMSELF HOW HE WILL ACCOMPLISH THE WORK.
