W912GY-16-T-0011- Composite Railroad Ties
Q: Would precast concrete be an acceptable material for these ties to be made from? I scanned thru the Solicitation but didn’t find much that addressed the material desired. A composite material would be a recycled rubber (tires) material, but I’m just looking for clarification from you. Our concrete is made from approx. 70% recycled mining tailings A: Previous orders of the composite material has mainly been plastic. However, as the solicitation calls for ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, RECYCLED COMPOSITE MATERIAL "BLOCK" OR EQUIVALENT, then the precast concrete that is recycled mining tailings would be accepted for bid. Please keep in mind though that the remaining requirements need to be met as well “MINIMUM LOAD RATE CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS NEEDED, 26,500 LBS. PER EACH.” Please also state the weight per tie as there could possibly be some questions as to whether an individual would be able to manipulate the tie for positioning with the material being concrete.
