SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE
The following have been added by full text:
VENDOR ANSWERS AND QUESTIONS
Q - We are to spray all reed canary grass and other competing vegetation in the 10 acre canopy gaps (not just 2' diameter spaces for trees), correct?
A – For CLINs 0002 and 0003, yes, the entire area should be sprayed; if established natural regen is present in those areas, however, 36 x 36 foot blocks should be sprayed up within the gaps (15 blocks per acre, approximately 1/2 of total gap area) (solicitation pg. 4). However, CLINs 0006, 1001 and 1002 are for spot spraying around individual planted trees, and this spraying IS in only the 2 foot diameter area around the seedling (solicitation pg.
6-7).
Q - On applying herbicide to the canopy gas with some regeneration, we are simply to avoid the regenerating native trees, correct? The 36'x36' blocks are a guideline? If the blocks end up being a different size but we successfully avoid native trees and get the spacing correct would that be fine?
A – If natural regeneration is present, the contractor should identify 36' x 36' blocks within the gap where natural regeneration densities are lowest and spray all vegetation within those blocks, including natural regeneration. The intent of the 36' x 36' blocks is to distribute create larger blocks of planted seedlings that cover approximately half of the gap area but also retain large areas of natural regeneration around the blocks.
Q - You mention trees should not be held outside of a container for more than one minute. What container are you referring to? We typically transport trees (over 100 per person or so) via a tree planting backpack to their planting locations after prepping them on-site.
A – The container refers to planting bags or other containers used to carry seedlings from the final staging area to the tree planting hole or slit. The tree planting backpack that is referred to would be one such container. The intent of this specification is to prevent planters from exposing tree roots to potential desiccation in the last step of the planting process by carrying multiple seedlings in hand with exposed roots.
Q - I see you would like an herbicide plan with the quote. Are you also needing a cold storage plan as well?
A – A cold storage plan DOES NOT need to be submitted with the quote.
Q - Is the past performance reference just for USACE projects?
A – Past performance references do not have to be for just USACE projects.
