(3) The provisions of AWS D1.5 Clause 3.7.7 allowing misdrilled holes do not apply. Repair all misdrilled holes as directed by the Engineer. Report all misdrilled or mislocated holes to the Engineer as an NCR along with the proposed repair procedure for approval. Holes that cannot be repaired to the satisfaction of the Engineer requires the replacement of the component.
c. Apply an antigalling compound to all stainless steel threads.
Compound must be marine-grade and suitable for immersive conditions.
Submit Antigalling Compound product data.
2.1.7 Miscellaneous Provisions
a. Weldments. Portions of the structure include thick weldments where locked in thermal stresses may make final dimensions unstable. The Contractor is required to sequence the work and thermally stress relieve subassemblies of thick weldments such that final machining achieves stable specified dimensions and tolerances.
b. Drain Holes. Locate drain holes as shown on the drawings, unless otherwise noted. Drill all drain holes. Flame cutting of holes is not permitted.
c. Seal Welds. Seal welds are required to maintain water tightness.
Show all seal welds on shop drawings. Make all seal welds continuous fillet welds as indicated on the drawings. In addition, seal welds may require weld wrapping around reentrant corners and weld access holes.
The fillet weld size indicated on the drawings will be utilized for all weld wrapping. All seal welds on fracture critical members are subjected to the minimum preheat requirements of AWS D1.5M/D1.5 Table 12.3, as applicable. All seal welds are subject to the same testing requirements for a fillet weld made to any fracture critical member according to AWS D1.5M/D1.5 Chapter 12.
2.1.8 Shop Assembly
Perform fabrication and assembly in an indoor, climate controlled shop.
Ensure all necessary clearances have been provided and that binding does not occur in any moving part. The Engineer or Government representative will witness all shop testing of completed assemblies without cost to the Government.
2.1.9 Seals
a. Submit Manufacturers Product Data for Seal Material to the Government for approval. Manufacturers data must demonstrate that it meets the requirements of the specifications below.
b. Provide each bulkhead with rubber bearing seals as shown on the drawings. Ensure the surfaces of finished splices are smooth and free of irregularities. Vulcanize side and bottom seal contact areas to create one, continuous seal assembly. Match drill bolt holes in the rubber seals with the seal support and clamping bars, as applicable, to ensure proper fit and spacing between holes of the completed seal assembly. Conform seal support and clamping bars to the configurations shown on the drawings. Install the seals and blocks after painting has been completed.
SECTION 05 59 13.00 25 Page 17 g2ct9pc9 Highlight screws firmly and uniformly; do not over-stress the threads. When a half nut is used for locking a full nut, the half nut is to be placed first and followed by the full nut. Lubricate all threads of all bolts, except high strength bolts, nuts and screws with an approved lubricant before assembly. Coat threads of corrosion-resisting steel bolts and nuts with an approved Antigalling Compound. Driving and drifting bolts or keys is not be permitted.
3.1.2 Alignment and Setting
Each machinery component or structural unit attached to structures fabricated according to this specification is to be accurately aligned by the use of steel shims or other approved methods so that no binding in any moving parts or distortion of any member occurs before it is fastened in place. Align all parts within the respective tolerances required. Shims are to remain with the final installation where called for on the drawings. Where parts are press-fit, apply anti-seize compound to laying surfaces.
3.2 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK
Clean machined surfaces of foreign matter. Protect all finished surfaces by suitable means to prevent damage. Oil and wrap unassembled pins and bolts with moisture resistant paper or protected by other approved means.
Wash finished surfaces of ferrous metals to be in bolted contact with an approved rust inhibitor and coated with an approved rust resisting compound for temporary protection during fabrication, shipping and storage periods.
Paint finished surfaces of metals as specified in specification SECTION
09 97 02.00 25: PAINTING - HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES.
3.3 PAINTING
Paint all exposed surfaces of the structure as specified in Section 09 97 02.00 25: PAINTING - HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES. Grind all edges of plate prior to coating. Grinding plate edges is required before paint preparation in order to remove hardness as a result of flame cutting.
Remove all weld spatter. Break all square edges and holes other than bolt holes and grind to a 1/16 inch radius prior to painting.
3.4 FUNCTIONALITY TEST
Perform a functionality test for all sets of bulkheads by stacking top and bottom sections on each other in a slot designated by the Government. The functionality test is required to be witnessed by a Government representative. A Government crane operator will operate the tailrace gantry crane for the functionality tests. Coordinate the functionality test with the Contracting Officer; provide a minimum of 28 days' notice prior to testing. Submit to the Government any deficiencies or issues that arose during the functionality test, and, if applicable, a corrective action plan within seven days after the completion of the test.
Deficiencies include, but are not limited to: alignment and fit within the slot; seal contact; non-watertight; and latching with the existing lifting beams. The cost of any repairs and/or corrective measures from the functionality test will be borne by the Government; any repairs and/or corrective measures as a result of fabrication not meeting the requirements of the specifications, however, will be the responsibility of the Contractor at no additional cost to the Government.
