Solicitation W50S9F-20-R-0008 Request For Information #2

Question #1:

In the SOW item 3, the specification calls for the new beams at the Main Gate to be “M50, P1 with capacity to stop and destroy a 15,000 lb vehicle traveling at speeds of up to 30 MPH.”

The manufacturer has told us that a M50 gate will stop vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 50 MPH and the M30 gate will stop vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 30 MPH. Please specify if you wish us to install the M50 gate or the M30 gate

Question #1 Response:

The answer is addressed in RFI #1. Either the K12 or the M50 are acceptable. We understand the ratings.

The P1 3.3 ft penetration is acceptable even though it is slightly less stringent than the L3.

Question #2:

At the Main Gate there are the 4 in-pavement denial barriers which are to be removed. The manufacturer of these gates recommends removing the cover and internal parts and filling the inside cavity with concrete, which will provide a solid surface to then install new asphalt over the top. Is it acceptable to leave the below grade concrete and rebar or do you require that the below grade concrete and rebar be removed?

Question #2 Response:

An addendum addressing this issue is forthcoming.
