Ground Rules
• Any Material presented today will not be provided in a handout. All responses to inquiries will be posted to FBO after conclusion of this Industry Day.
• A lack of attendance to this Industry Day does not preclude participation in any future solicitations, if any are issued.
• Reminder to all Foreign Visitors – While on the Arsenal you must be escorted at all times. If you have to leave this room to go outside to stretch your legs or make a phone call, etc., a Government employee will accompany you until you are back inside the briefing area.
• General Reminder to all here today – The use of cameras, tape recorders, or other recording devices will not be allowed at any time during the Industry Day. Vendor hardware is prohibited.
7FOUO
What this IS
• This Industry Day is for the purpose of informing Industry of the NGSW planned acquisition approach.
• The Government is seeking Industry questions and comments to assist in shaping the NGSW program strategy to rapidly develop and deliver prototype weapons and ammunition.
• The Intent is to engage industry in order to provide the best material solution for the NGSW program.
• All vendor information will be treated confidentially.
• It is an opportunity for industry to gain a better understanding of the Prototype Opportunity Notice (PON) and to ask questions for clarification of anything that seems unclear.
FOUO 8
What this is NOT
• The Industry Day is not the Vendors opportunity to provide sales pitches or giveaways.
• No award is intended as a result of this Industry Day
• This is not the Offerors opportunity to try and leverage more information from the Government. It is to gain further clarification.

Next Generation Squad Weapons Program
Approach
LTC Jason D. Bohannon
PdM Crew Served Weapons
NGSW Program Background
• The Small Arms Ammunition Configuration (SAAC) study, completed in 2017, identified potential weapon system approaches that can address operational needs
• NGSW-R is the planned replacement for the M4/M4A1 Carbine in the close combat force
• NGSW-AR is the planned replacement for the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) in the Automatic Rifleman Role in the close combat force
• Both weapons will leverage a common cartridge. The Government will be providing Vendors with 6.8mm Surrogate, and General Purpose (GP) projectiles
• Next Generation Squad Weapon – Fire Control is a separate acquisition effort

Ammunition Prototypes
Bullet + Case + Powder + Primer = Cartridge
Bullet - designed for maximum terminal performance on target or highest level of accuracy
Case - holds all of components together, but also seals the chamber so that the pressure and gas from the burning powder drives the bullet forward down the barrel
Powder - an explosive mixture of potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulfur used for propelling the projectile
Primer - is what ignites the powder charge, thereby firing the cartridge
A Cartridge is made up of four main components: Bullet, Case, Powder and Primer
Can be:
• Brass
• Stainless Steel
• Polymer
• Hybrid
• Other Lightweight
