1.0 Scope
1.1 Identification. This performance specification establishes the requirements for a portable Telecommunication System Test Set. The official nomenclature is the Test Set, Telecommunication System: TS-4544( )/U.
1.1.1 System Description. The Telecommunication System Test Set is a portable, general purpose, solid state, programmable data communication analyzer, designed for use in rugged operational environments where the environmental conditions are routinely encountered in an unprotected, uncontrolled climate. The Telecommunication System Test Set is designed to meet the testing needs of technicians who are installing and maintaining data communications circuits and network elements. The Telecommunication System Test Set will replace, at a minimum, the TS-4281/G Data Communications Analyzer.
1.2 System Overview. The Telecommunication System Test Set provides Army personnel the capability of analyzing, evaluating, and troubleshooting digital communications and electronic systems. It measures and displays various bit data information, as related to digital transmissions, with bit rates from 32 bits per second (bps) to 9.953280 Gigabits per second (Gbps). The Telecommunication System Test Set measures and displays the bit data information that includes, but is not limited to, error free seconds, bit errors and block errors, and will operate in direct support over the specified temperature ranges and in an environmentally controlled weapons shelter. In addition, it will be used by technicians in Field Maintenance and Sustainment Maintenance units. The Telecommunications Test Set will be primarily a battery operated, portable, lightweight tester for operation in normal-to-severe weather conditions.
