N2 Modernization Phase 4

Statement of Work (SoW) FEU Project #23006

USDA – NCAH

1920 Dayton Avenue

Ames, Iowa 50010

GENERAL INFORMATION:

1.0 Scope of Work:

The scope of this project is to replace the soon to be discontinued Johnson Controls (JCI) Building Automation supervisory and N2 hardware and communication wiring to the most currently available components to meet BACnet Standards. Program system to operate in the new Metasys User Interface (MUI).

2.0 Background:

The location, apart from Building 20 CLF, has had the HVAC, lighting, laboratory room controls, and other automated control functions controlled by Johnson Controls Building Automation System: PMI and Metasys. PMI software and network components were phased out and replaced with the new Metasys web-based components at the end of the 20th century. The PMI Network Control Modules were replaced with the Network Automated Engines. The field controllers, to this point, communicated via an 18-gauge 3 conductor cable: Johnson Controls N2/RS-485 with 9,600 Baud Rate. In 2016, all the DX-9100 digital controllers were replaced with new advanced field equipment BACnet controllers. This change occurred because the controllers had reached their end-of-life and were discontinued by JCI. The new controllers are communicating via the JCI N2 protocol. N2 is a slower communicating protocol than BACnet/MSTP: 22-gauge 4 conductor cable @ 38,400 Baud Rate. There are still several old N2 controllers that are obsolete and need updating to the new CGM series of BACnet controllers. The Network Automated Engines will be replaced with the Smart Network Engines, which have more memory and processing capability, a smaller physical footprint, and no battery to maintain. System shall be converted to the new Metasys User Interface (MUI). This enhancement will provide more ease of operations for the user/operators, as well as other system operating and troubleshooting capabilities.

The result of installing the new hardware components and communication wiring will make the Building Automation System more robust, highly improving the control and acquisition of data and data transfers to storage, graphical and control logic speed, and reliability of processes, and giving us a system that is at the industry current standards to meet the needs and demands that the current system will not be able to achieve with discontinued hardware.

All equipment, network engines/controllers and BACnet devices, listed in the Statement of Work is located on the isolated NCAH Building Automation Network and DOES NOT communicate to the USDA Enterprise Network.
