Cottonwood Cove Lagoon Valve Replacement

PMIS# 313029

SECTION 01 11 00

SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

Project Location:

This project is located at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

A. The job is to replace the existing lagoon valves at the following location:

1. Cottonwood Cove, Nevada developed area. 35.483720,- 114.702849

B. The Work consists of the following:

1. Replace two(2) 6” and six(6) 8” Keystone brand wheel operated globe valves at Cottonwood Cove lagoons. The new valves must be Keystone brand or equals. To be considered equal the valves must be coated with a corrosion resistant material and be NSF 61 Compliant. The replacement valves must side offset wheel operators. The new globe valves must be coated to withstand a harsh wastewater environment. Existing valves are installed with flanges inside manholes. New stainless-steel bolt kits and new gaskets must be installed at time of valve replacement. Valves must be checked for proper operation upon completion of job. The valves are located at Cottonwood Cove sewage lagoons.

2. Valve specs: Keystone globe valves with side offset wheel operators.

3. The new valve installation must be coordinated with NPS personnel. Interruptions to sewage pumping must be coordinated with NPS personnel to ensure least impact on area operations. The new valves must have the same external dimensions as the valves they are replacing to ensure proper function and fit inside of the manholes. Please see photos.

4. If other than Keystone brand valves are proposed the contractor must ensure that they will fit and operate in the exact same manner as the oem so that well established sewage lagoon SOP’s remain the same.

5. A post award meeting is required and will be attended by key NPS personnel as well as the contractor and any sub-contractors.

6. Contractor is required to submit at minimum a weekly construction progress report, plan for the next week, before and after pics that assist in documenting the construction process and progress.

7. Work also includes removal and safe disposal of the old valves and any trash created by this project.

8. Work includes associated mechanical joints needed, parts, fittings, pipe and labor to provide a functioning sewage lagoon valve system that satisfies the needs of the NPS unit as determined by NPS personnel.

9. All parts and workmanship will have a one year warranty against failure from date of completion.

10. Valves other than exact replacements must be approved by NPS before ordering.

11. The contractor will be responsible for any required permits or compliance needs from the State of Nevada and/or Arizona. All new utility work will comply with AWWA, NPS and state of Nevada and/or Arizona regulations. Permits must be stamped by a NV and/or AZ P.E. when required. Copies of all permit submittals and approvals will be provided to NPS asap.

12. Call Nevada/Arizona dig alert at 811 before any trenching or excavation.

C. Performance Period: Period of performance shall be 120 calendar days.

1.2 GOVERNMENT-FURNISHED ITEMS (NOT USED)

1.3 PUBLIC USE OF THE SITE

A. General: The project site is open to the public and open to National Park Service (NPS) employees during construction. The contractor shall at all times conduct his operations to ensure the least inconvenience to the visitors and NPS Staff.

1.4 CONTRACTOR USE OF SITE

A. General: Limit use of the site during the construction period to the project area limits as outlined on the attached site maps. Do not disturb portions of the site beyond the project area limits.

B. Park Entry: The contractor shall furnish a list of personnel with phone contact information. Vehicles associated with the contractor shall be waived entrance fee upon entering in a marked company vehicle or by providing the names of employees entering in personal vehicles. The entrance fee is waived only for the purpose of reporting directly to a specific work location. Any deviation for recreational purposes is subject to payment of required entrance fees.

C. Site Access: The contractor shall access the project site as outlined on the attached site maps. Do not drive vehicles off road or access non-project areas without permission from the contracting officer or park superintendent.

D. Park Regulations: Ensure all personnel (contractors, subcontractors, and vendors) entering or working in the park are familiar with and obey all park regulations. Law enforcement rangers will intervene if they perceive any unsafe or unlawful activity.

E. Working Hours: Regular work hours shall be limited to daylight hours from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding government holidays. Work outside regular hours requires approval from the contracting officer.

F. No Smoking Policy: Smoking is prohibited inside or outside within 25 feet of any buildings in the park. This applies to existing buildings, buildings under construction, and buildings under renovation. Discarding of tobacco products or debris anywhere other than into designated tobacco receptacles is considered littering and subject to fines.

G. Staging and Storage: Confine storage of equipment and materials to the staging / lay-down / storage areas identified on the attached site maps or as established at the preconstruction meeting.

H. Parking: The contractor shall park vehicles and heavy equipment in designated areas for contractor use or as established at the preconstruction meeting. Vehicles are not permitted within long-term or overnight parking along roads or in associated overlooks / pull-outs.

I. Driveways and Entrances: The contractor shall keep driveways and entrances serving the premises clear and available to the government, government employees, and emergency vehicles at all times.

J. Preservation of Natural Features: Prevent damage to natural surroundings. Restored damaged areas and replace damaged trees, vegetation, and grass at no expense to the government.

K. Refer also to Section 01 11 40 Work Restrictions and Section 01 50 00 Temporary Facilities & Controls.

1.5 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS / REPORTS

A. General: The following reference documents / reports are available upon request to supplement the information specified in the contract documents: Operations and Maintenance Manuals if available.
