PR 0040549521: METAL COVER FOR ROOFING EXTENSION OF POLE BARN, BITTER LAKE NWR

CHAVES COUNTY, NM 2021

SPECIFICATIONS/STATEMENT OF WORK

REQUIREMENTS

The contractor will provide one (1) prefabricated shade structure (or shelter) to the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge (NWR or refuge). The refuge will complete all excavation, foundation preparation, and installation of the shade structures per the contractor’s specifications. Bitter Lake NWR is located approximately seven (7) miles east of Roswell, NM. The shade structure will be an extension of the refuge’s existing “pole barn,” which is used as a parking shelter for trucks (passenger vehicles, dump trucks, transport trucks, etc.), heavy equipment (tractors, road graders, loaders, etc.), trailers, and other refuge supplies. As such, the shade structure will need to be large enough to accommodate these vehicles and equipment, both in terms of height and the distance between vertical beams to allow for driving under the shelter. The shade structure shall meet these minimum requirements:

One (1) prefabricated shade structure will be delivered to the refuge. The proposal shall include the cost of fabrication and delivery of all materials, parts, and plans necessary to properly install the structure.

General Dimensions/Considerations: The structure shall be 75’ (L) x 50’ (W) x 16’ (H). The roof will be single slope with a 2/12 pitch (or similar). The structure shall be designed to be assembled by welding the structural members together, not by bolting them together. The roof panels will be attached with screws to the structural members, and the screws shall be provided by the contractor.

2) Design Criteria: All structural members and welded connection plates shall be made from steel, and all designs shall be based on the latest AISC standards. The vertical beams shall be at least 6” wide and should be made from either round or square pipe. The other structural members should be I beams, or any other style that is structurally equivalent. The roof purlins can be C or Z channel steel, but they must be a minimum of 8” wide. The roof panels shall be at least 24-gauge R panel, and these panels can be made from tin. All roof framing shall be flush against the roof decking as much as possible to eliminate the possibility of bird nesting. All HSS roof members shall have end caps for the same reason, and roof trim shall be included. The final structure design shall be approved by the Refuge Manager.

3) Material Finishes: The steel framework does not have to be painted. The roof panel color shall match the existing “pole barn”, which is a tan color. Color options will be discussed and reviewed by both parties, and the final color shall be approved by the Refuge Manager.

4) Foundation: All vertical beams need to be anchored to concrete footings using weld plates. These weld plates shall be a minimum of 18” x 18” and embedded in the concrete at least 35”. The top of the weld plates shall be flush with the surface of the concrete. Exact mounting and design will be discussed and reviewed by both parties, and the final mounting design shall be approved by Refuge Manager. The weld plates shall be provided by the contractor.

5) Design drawings: All engineering drawings shall be stamped and sealed by a licensed engineer.

CODE COMPLIANCE

Designs shall comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the International Building Code as appropriate.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Submittals shall include design and general arrangement drawings, samples, and delivery schedules.

0. PRODUCTS

All structures, vaults, and hardware provided shall be commercial products manufactured by companies with at least five years’ experience in designing and fabricating the type required.
