About this file
Summary
This document is a specifications document for a British Pendulum Charpy V-Notch impact tester prepared for a metals laboratory. The specifications outline the technical requirements for procurement of the equipment, which will be used to test products such as ASTM F1554 anchor bolts and ASTM A500 bridge rail. The document does not identify a specific state, agency, or purchasing entity.
The equipment specification details a Charpy V-Notch testing machine with minimum rated potential energy of 325 Joules and impact velocity between 3 and 6 m/s. The machine must meet all general requirements of ASTM E23 and include essential components including a Charpy centering gauge, tongs, impact striker, anvil inserts, and shrouds. The specification requires a digital display with readings graduated in degrees or absorbed energy in increments of 0.25% of range capacity or less, along with applicable software and computer support. Additional requirements include a standard base design meeting ASTM and ISO recommendations with foundation preparation kit, capability to test both full and sub-size Charpy specimens and non-ambient specimens, total frictional loss not exceeding 0.75% of range capacity, and comprehensive safety features including an integrated guard system meeting ISO 148 requirements, motorized hammer lift with automatic return functionality, hammer brake and clutch mechanisms, and a safety enclosure preventing hammer release when doors are open.
