About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) Attachment 1 with Additional Specifications for Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Independence Advanced Engineering Control System (AECS) Data Acquisition Units (DAU). The Navy's Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division is seeking thirteen (13) shipsets of DAUs, with each shipset comprising 20 unique units. The DAUs require specific technical specifications, including dimensions of 44.5" H x 25.5" W x 12.75" D or less, weight of 270lbs or less, 24VDC power, and must meet rigorous military specifications for environmental testing (EMI, shock, vibration, water/dust, salt/fog, thermal, and airborne noise).
The Sources Sought notice (Solicitation Number N64498-25-RFPREQ-PD-51-0161) is seeking capability statements from potential vendors, with responses due by 6:00 PM EST on 13 June 2025. Responses must be submitted electronically to jenny.e.tomeo.civ@us.navy.mil. The document specifies detailed technical requirements, including specific hardware components from manufacturers like Siemens, Littelfuse, Wago, and others. Deliverables must include comprehensive documentation such as installation drawings, assembly drawings, wiring schematics, and wire connection lists. This is a market research effort and does not constitute a formal Request for Proposal, with no compensation provided for response preparation.

Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Independence Advanced Engineering Control System (AECS) Data Acquisition Units (DAU) Request for Information (RFI) / Sources Sought Notice (SSN)
1. AECS DAU Scope of Work
a. Background - LCS Independence DAUs have been redesigned to include:
i. 25% I/O signal growth from Legacy system
ii. Hot swap capable I/O module backplane
iii. 3 pairs of redundant PLC controllers
iv. weight PLCs for data transmission to Profibus Devices
v. Interface modules to communicate to shipboard I/O
1. Multiple interface modules are used to segregate I/O signals into functional groups (ie. SSDG signals, SWBD signals, etc.)
2. Supported I/O are Modbus Serial I/O, Digital Inputs, Digital Outputs, Analog Input, Analog Output, Analog RTD
vi. All I/O is connected from the Siemens I/O module to WAGO terminal blocks/relays for connection to the shipboard wiring.
vii. Power distribution will utilize EMI filter, Breakers, fuses, DC/DC converters, and Siemens Selectivity modules. The split power distribution allows the DAU to maintain partial functionality in the event of a power component failure.
b. Deliverables:
i. Provide 13 shipsets of DAUs for LCS Independence (20 unique DAUs per shipset)
ii. Each shipset is required 3 months prior the ship availability and be delivered to each Shipyard once identified.
iii. Any modifications must be documented in Technical Data Package content including revisions to the Government Funded Information
1. Any modified structure or new component will require written and accepted extension from the contractor or additional component mil-spec testing.
2. AECS DAU Scope of Work
a. Technical Specifications:
i. Existing mounting interface & cable entries
ii. Dimensions: 44.5" H x 25.5" W x 12.75" D or less (each cabinet)
iii. Weight: 270lbs or less (each DAU cabinet)
iv. Power: 24VDC
v. Network & Communication: Ethernet & Fiber
vi. MIL-STD environmental testing: EMI, Shock, Vibration, Water/Dust, Salt/Fog, Thermal, and Airborne Noise.
b. Military Specifications - Deviations from provided drawings will require extensions or retesting of the following:
i. MIL-S-901D: Requirements for Shock Tests, High Impact Shipboard Machinery, Equipment, and Systems
ii. MIL-S-167-1A: Mechanical Vibrations of Shipboard Equipment (Type I – Environmental and Type II – Internally Excited)
iii. MIL-STD-461G: Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Subsystems and Equipment
iv. MIL-STD-810H: Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests
c. Enclosure Specification:
i. Enclosure is zinc plated steel construction with two main components: outer cabinet and inner mounted panel.
ii. Outer cabinet has a hinged swing door, door stay, indicator lights, resilient mounts to fit shipboard foundations, bolted bottom panel for shipboard cable entry (utilizing cable glands), and eye hooks for lifting.
iii. Inner panel consists of a metal backplane with a swing door for additional mounting space. The panel contains the din rail mounted controls equipment, power distribution equipment, fan, terminal blocks/relays, cable trays, and internal wiring.
