About this file

This document is a reference list of secure and verifiable documents published under the authority of O.C.G.A. 50-36-2 by the State of Georgia. The list establishes acceptable forms of identification for verification purposes and does not necessarily indicate residency or immigration status. Acceptable documents include United States passports and passport cards, military identification cards, driver's licenses from most states and U.S. territories, state identification cards, tribal identification cards from federally recognized Native American tribes, Permanent Resident Cards, Employment Authorization Documents containing photographs, foreign government passports, Merchant Mariner Documents or Credentials, FAST cards, NEXUS cards, SENTRI cards, Canadian driver's licenses, and Certificates of Citizenship or Naturalization from the U.S. Department of Citizenship and Immigration Services. The document specifies that driver's licenses from Alaska, Idaho, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Utah, and Washington are not acceptable due to non-compliance with immigration verification requirements prior to issuance, with Maryland and Massachusetts pending review.

The document further provides that any additional documents required by federal law for administering public benefits or programs shall be deemed secure and verifiable documents solely for those specific programs or public benefit administrations. This list serves as a regulatory reference for state and local agencies in Georgia to verify identification and establish standards for acceptable documentation in official capacities.
