DRAFT requirements for SDA Tranche 1 Optical Communications Terminals as distributed with the 4/2021 OCT RFI
DRAFT

Introduction Optical Communications Terminals (OCTs) to be used on Tranche 1 spacecraft shall adhere to the requirements in this document for the terminal-to-terminal links. These OCTs will provide service for links including space-to-space (S2S), space-to-air (S2A), space-to-maritime (S2M), and space-to-ground (S2G).

The documents included in the package are:

1. T1 OCT Requirements – This document changes between Tranches/programs

a. SDA Optical Communications Standard (previously called the OISL Standard) –

i. This document does not change between tranches

ii. The Standard can evolve but it provides the framework, definitions, and protocols without levying requirements and should remain consistent across systems with different requirements

b. References

i. SDA Tranche 0 Coding, Modulation, and Framing

ii. Multiple ITU-T Recommendations including G.694.1, G.709, G.975, and G.975.1

iii. The OpenZR+ Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) This document provides the requirements for the Optical Communications Terminals to be delivered in the Tranche 1 programs. This document incorporates, by reference, the SDA Optical Communications Standard, which provides definitions, protocols, and framework that are static between programs and terminal implementations. The protocols are defined in the associated reference documents as referenced by the SDA Optical Communications Standard.

Tranche 1 Transport Layer OCT Requirements Table 1 lists the DRAFT requirements on T1T1 OCTs.

Table 3 lists the protocols, data rates, and maximum range required of T1T1 OCTs. The data rate listed in the table corresponds to the data rates as defined by the associated protocol. The G.709 protocols and data rates specify an optical transport unit (OTU) corresponding to the approximate data rate. The references for these protocols may be found in the Optical Communications Standard document.
