Attachment II: Mock Task Order
International Sales Support - ExporTech
BACKGROUND
Since its inception twenty years ago, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) has focused on helping manufacturers increase profit-lines and streamline processes through the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques. But as manufacturing changes, MEP continuously adapts to offer manufacturers the programs and services most needed.
Building on our early efforts, MEP also deploys services that work both sides of the balance sheet – reducing costs and increasing revenues. MEP works not only to help manufacturers with problem-solving and survival, but also on developing new sales, new markets and new products. The growth services focus on harnessing technology and innovation to encourage business growth and innovation of manufacturing. We need to continue to evolve the MEP program – insuring that we are responsive to U.S.
manufacturing needs of the future.
A major strategic focus for NIST MEP is the further development of growth and innovation services for clients, as well the development of partnerships to support the delivery of these services – particularly in the international trade area. MEP requires assistance to build these programs throughout the country, provide coaching and training to practitioners, and directly deliver services to manufacturers.
Growth opportunities for manufacturers are increasingly found in international markets.
Billions of new consumers in emerging economies are joining the global market, and competition in domestic markets is becoming fiercer than ever. There is a tremendous opportunity to assist small and medium sized companies as they account for almost 97 percent of U.S. exporters, but still only represent about 30 percent of the total value of exported goods.
MEP is the ideal organization to help manufacturers enter and /or expand into global markets, which enables companies to diversify their portfolios and to weather changes in the domestic economy.
ExporTech™
MEP has developed in partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service the ExporTech™™ program, which helps companies enter or expand in global markets. ExporTech™ is a three session group project that helps small to mid-sized manufacturers rapidly develop and execute a successful export strategy. The three session group project assists participating companies in developing an international growth plan, provides experts who will vet their plans, and connects the companies with organizations that will help them move quickly beyond planning to actual export sales.
In today’s economy, more and more companies are turning internationally to offset declines in domestic sales. In fact, exporting is rapidly becoming the fasting growing segment of the market. ExporTech™ leads companies through a facilitated process that prepares them for profitable growth in global markets.
