About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of displacement sensors and associated hardware by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) to support cryocooler testing with pressurized cryogenic nitrogen environments.

The SOW is structured into four Contract Line Item Numbers (CLINs). CLIN 0001 requires six units of displacement sensors (Philtec RC31-Bv275-C1E1QT1 or equivalent), including complete sensor packages with probe, cabling, and associated electronics for analog output. The sensors must function in cryogenic vacuum chambers with temperature tolerance from -280°F to 100°F and pressure tolerance from vacuum to 125 psi. Technical specifications include a 2-foot cable from probe to CF275 flange, a 10-foot cable to the NASA data acquisition system, probe tip standoff distance of 0.01" to 0.05", probe tip diameter no larger than 1/16", analog output signal from 0 to 5 Volts, 3 dB bandwidth from DC to 20 kHz or higher, resolution of 0.5 micrometers or finer, and total signal range of at least 0.035" with nominal linear range of at least 0.010". Deliverables include calibration certificates per Philtec published specifications. CLIN 0002 requires calibration of five proximity probes to a 0.4-inch diameter round target. CLIN 0003 requires calibration of one proximity probe to a flat target. CLIN 0004 covers shipping and handling to MSFC Central Receiving in Huntsville, AL 35812. The period of performance is no greater than 10 weeks for CLINs 0001, 0002, and 0003, with shipping occurring concurrently as items become ready. The vendor must provide all labor and equipment for onsite manufacturing, calibration, and quality inspection, and must warrant sensors free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year from purchase date, with repair, replacement, or exchange at no charge if failure occurs during the warranty period.

Displacement Sensor Procurement

Statement of Work (SOW)

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically Marshall Space Flight Center

(MSFC) requires displacement sensors and associated hardware to support upcoming partial cryocooler testing. These instruments will be exposed to an environment with pressurized cryogenic nitrogen. This

Statement of Work (SOW) defines the work that NASA MSFC wishes to contract.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOW covers the provision and shipping of Displacement Sensors and associated calibration.

To ensure clarity and compatibility with NASA procurement processes, each piece of hardware is defined as a unique Contract Item Line Number (CLIN), with its own requirements, quantities, and period of performance defined below.

The vendor will furnish all labor and equipment necessary to (1) manufacture the displacement sensors onsite, (2) calibrate the sensors onsite, and (3) perform quality inspections onsite to meet the technical specifications. Deliverables must meet the technical requirements outlined under each CLIN and be suitable for integration into MSFC test facilities.

The vendor will warrant that the sensors be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase. If the sensors fail during the warranty period, the vendor will repair, replace or exchange it without charge.

3.0 CONTRACT LINE-ITEM NUMBER (CLIN) BREAKDOWN

3.1 CLIN 0001 – Displacement Sensors (Philtec RC31-Bv275-C1E1QT1 or

Equivalent)

3.1.1 Requirements

1. The vendor shall provide a complete sensor package including the probe, cabling, and associated electronics to enable analog output.

2. The sensor package shall enable measurement inside a cryogenic vacuum chamber:

2.1. The vendor shall include a 2’ cable from probe to CF275.

2.2. The vendor shall include a 10’ cable from CF plate to NASA data acquisition system.

2.3. The vendor shall include a CF275 (ConFlat) flange for passing cables.

2.4. The probe tip shall tolerate pressure from vacuum up to 125 psi without loss of function.

2.5. The probe and cable within the vacuum chamber shall tolerate temperatures from -280 F to

100 F without loss of function.

3. The probe shall meet the following requirements:

3.1. The probe tip shall have a nominal standoff distance between 0.01” and 0.05”.

3.2. The probe tip shall be no larger than 1/16” in diameter.

3.3. The probe tip shall include a fitting to prevent leakage flow with tip pressurized up to 125 psi.

3.4. The probe tip shall extend 3/8” outside the fitting.

4. The output signal shall meet the following requirements:

4.1. The output signal shall be analog and range from 0 to 5 Volts.
