About this file

This Statement of Work outlines NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's requirements for testing the Honeywell Miniature Inertial Measurement Unit (MIMU) through random vibration environments at the Honeywell Space Facility in Clearwater, Florida, with testing to be completed by October 1, 2025.

The vendor must test an Engineering Model MIMU to determine vibration effects on angular rate and acceleration outputs, with data collected at 200 Hz through the RS422 flight interface. Key requirements include measuring MIMU orientation using optical alignment before and after testing, conducting a Test Readiness Review, providing analyst support for up to three meetings, accommodating three MSFC team members on-site for up to five days, and delivering comprehensive test reports. The testing involves specific vibration parameters ranging from 20-2000 Hz at various PSD levels up to 13.40 grms, with detailed test tolerances of ±3 dB for spectral shape and ±1.0 dB for wideband level. The vendor must provide both raw and processed test data, maintain detailed test reports including configuration descriptions, navigation test results, deviations, and calibration information.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1.0 Objective/Requirements

1.1 NASA MSFC has a requirement to test the Honeywell Miniature Inertial

Measurement Unit (MIMU) through random vibration environments. The test will be conducted in accordance with the procedure describe in section 2.0.

2.0 Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

2.1 Test Description: The vendor shall perform testing on an Engineering Model MIMU (user configured parameters will be defined prior to test) to determine the effect of random vibration on the angular rate and acceleration outputs of the MIMUs. The orientation and position of the MIMU shall be measured using optical alignment as an external reference before and after the testing to correct for the effects of any changes in the position and angular orientation of the vibration fixture (or pyroshock platform) during the testing. The MIMU shall be operated during this test with all data collected at 200 Hz through the RS422 flight interface. The discrepancy between the initial attitude and position and the MIMU reports shall be calculated and incorporated into the test results.

*Note – this level slightly exceeded the MIMU capability in the past. If it does, MSFC will lower it to be within capability

2.2 Test Tolerances:

2.2.1 Spectral shape: ±3 dB when measured in frequency bands no wider than

25 Hz

2.2.2 Wideband level: ±1.0 dB (true RMS)

2.3 Test Plan

2.3.1 Deliver a test procedure/test plan (can be informal in PowerPoint) for

MSFC review and mutual agreement prior to the start of testing.

2.3.2 Conduct a Test Readiness Review (TRR) prior to the start of testing.

2.3.3 Provide analysts’ support for up to three (3) meetings to address questions.

2.3.4 Provide on-site support for three (3) MSFC team members to witness testing up to five (5) days.

2.4 Test Data: All test data shall be maintained and made available for inspection at the vendor’s facility. Copies of test data shall be submitted to MSFC as requested.

Vendor shall provide both: raw and processed data associated with the test.

2.5 Test Reports: Prepare one document for each test or test series for each deliverable item. As a minimum, each report requires the following information:

2.5.1 Description of the test configuration instrumentation, and test sequence.

2.5.2 Compilation of the navigation test results.

a. Analysis assessment of the test data and calculations of the navigation errors induced by the random vibration environments.

b. Deliver MIMU raw 200Hz data and 1600Hz data

c. Optical alignment / truth reference

2.5.3 A list and description of specific deviations/changes from the approved test plan or test procedures.

2.5.4 All non-conformance reports other documents which define problems/changes/deviations from the approved test plans or test procedures.

2.5.5 As-run test procedures and test data recorded during test.

2.5.6 Logs with mate/demates on all flight-interface connectors and flight flanges.

2.5.7 Environmental test report documentation including:

a. Environmental test set-up description (including test article installation; actual photographs encouraged).

b. Environmental test environment data (levels and durations).

c. Results of functional modes tested during environmental exposure.

d. A test verification record for each assembly/subsystem/system listed in the Environmental Requirements Document, environmental test and analysis matrix, other than GFE units. Provide, as a minimum: any test deviations from the flow down specifications; the test results (pass/fail); and details of anomalies during the test and their resolution.

Designate any requirement verified “by similarity” or “by heritage” and not by environmental test.

2.6 Calibration Reports: Prepare one document for each calibration or series for each deliverable item. As a minimum, each report requires the following information:

2.6.1 Description of the calibration configuration instrumentation, and measurement sequence.

2.6.2 Compilation of the calibration test results

2.6.3 A list and description of specific deviations/changes form the approved calibration plan or procedures.

2.6.4 All non-conformance reports, P/FRs, MRB actions or other documents, which define problems/changes/deviations from the approved plans or procedures.

2.6.5 As-run procedures and calibration data recorded during test.
