Project Title:

Replace Deck I Beam Summary of Work: Support deck, tear out old I beam and replace with new.

DESCRIPTION:

Broome DDSO is seeking a vendor to remove a deck I beam and replace with new. The winning bidder will follow the scope or work below and construction assessment from Watson Engineering. A Site Visit is mandatory to bid on this project.

SCOPE OF WORK:

1. Contractor is responsible for removing I beam and all debris from the Property.

2. When Removing I Beam contractor is responsible for temporary shoring to support deck safely during construction.

3. Contractor to replace I beam with 1 of the 3 of the Recommendations from Watson.

1. Structural analysis for the beam shows that a new W10x30 is more than adequate to support the deck load. If desired, the steel beam could be reduced in size down to a W10x12 or a W8x15. See attached analysis.

2. Structural analysis for a new engineered wood beam shows that a Parralam PSL 2.0E 3.5” x 9.5” would be an adequate size. See attached analysis. This is the recommended replacement.

3. Structural analysis for dimensioned lumber shows that a beam consisting of 2 x 10 (qty=3) spanning 9 feet with a new intermediate column in the middle of the existing span would be an adequate size. See attached analysis.

4. If dimensional lumber is used, partial demolition of the driveway will be required to pour a new cast in place concrete sono-tube footer. A new 18” diameter concrete cast-in-place sono-tube footer, installed to the frost line depth would be required. The placement of the new column should not interfere with access to the existing two car garage since it will be placed in the middle of the doors.

5. All work must be completed according to all applicable codes, industry best standards, and manufacturer’s instructions.

6. Job will not be considered complete until the job is verified and accepted by Plant Superintendent of designated supervisor.

7. All work must be warrantied to be free of defects in workmanship for one year after completion of work.

8. Structural Assessment will be attached with Email.
