Questions & Answers

Medical Waste Removal Services

1) Under 'CONTRACTOR FURNISHED EQUIPMENT / SUPPLIES', line item #2 states:

"...there will always be six (6) each 90 gallon containers with wheels, on hand at the medical facility at all times."

Do you anticipate that all six (6) 90 gallon containers will be replaced on a weekly basis, or will it be a lower number for replacement, with the remaining serving as back-up?

Answer: On average, the 30th Medical Group uses approximately one (1) to one and a half

(1.5) bins per week. Additional bins are kept on site as a backup. During flu season, the volume goes up slightly for additional sharps.

2) Weight reports for each of the waste streams mentioned

a. Biohazard

b. Chemo

c. Path

Answer: The reports do not break out individual waste for biohazard or pathology. MDG does not produce any Chemo medical waste. See attached spreadsheet for “Biohazard &

Sharps” recorded weights for November 2015 to June 2016.

3) What are the current rates for these services

Answer: The current rates will not be provided for this service.

4) Who is current vendor?

The current vendor is Medical Waste California.

5) Can you please confirm that the RFP is requesting the awarded contractor supply primary and secondary containments containers (i.e Sharps containers)?

Answer: The contractor will only provide the main storage containers requested which is six

(6) each ninety (90) gallon containers with wheels. The MDG will be supplying its own sharps containers.

6) Do you have reports showing the pounds of red bag waste, chemo, pharmaceutical, pathological, sharps, and hazardous waste produced by your facility?

Answer: The reports do not break out individual waste for red bag waste, pharmaceutical, or pathology. 30TH MDG does not produce any Chemo medical waste. See attached spreadsheet for “Biohazard & Sharps” recorded weights for November 2015 to June 2016.

7) How many sharps, chemo, and pharmaceutical containers do you have?

Answer: This MDG does not produce any chemo containers. Sharps and pharmaceutical containers are supplied and handled by MDG personnel.

8) Will you require vendor to provide sharps service technicians who will go to each room and swap out sharps containers?

Answer: No, MDG will not require the vendor to provide sharps service technicians.

9) Or will vendor pick up containers at biohazard cage?

Answer: The vendor will pick up the containers at the biohazard shed located in the back of the facility.

10) Is there additional allowances for HUBZone companies?

Answer: No, this is a total small business set aside.

11) Does the prime contractor need to hold the Medical Waste Disposal Permit or can a subcontractor be used that holds the permit?

Answer: The contractor or subcontractor physically removing the medical waste must hold a permit from the state of California in order to meet the requirements of this contract.
