The Oakland Public Library (OPL) strives to provide a welcoming space where community members can comfortably access a wide array of services. Library users are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that supports and maintains this environment for the benefit of everyone.
Many OPL locations are experiencing an increase in reported incidents with adults who are experiencing impacts of homelessness, incarceration, substance abuse, or mental health concerns (the “affected community” targeted with this service). OPL seeks Patron Experience Navigators to work in tandem with library staff and contracted security officers. Navigators will act as supportive guides for individuals in our spaces, engaging staff or security when needed for enforcement.
