Additional Information: The final adjustment to finished grade shall be made by adjusting and/or reconstructing the existing concrete riser rings within the throat area.

The rings shall be replaced, if damaged. The reconstructed sections shall be at least equal in quality to the existing structure. In no case shall the precast barrel section be disturbed. Cast iron extension or adjustment rings will not be allowed in the adjusted structure. Water valve covers, detector loop handholds, sanitary sewer cleanouts, and survey monuments shall be raised by removing the existing concrete collar, raising the frame and cover to finished grade, and constructing a new concrete collar. For all adjustments, the top surface of the adjusted facility shall be within 1/8 inch of the adjacent finished grade. Adjustment to final grade shall not be made until the top layer of paving has been completed immediately surrounding it. The Contractor shall preserve the survey point of all monuments in its undisturbed location and condition.

When the existing pavement surface adjacent to any frames, covers, grates, or manholes is removed by cold planning or wedge grinding, and the top layer/final overlay of asphalt concrete is not placed during the same working period, the Contractor shall place temporary tapers around each frame, cover, grate or manhole prior to opening the area to any public traffic. Temporary asphalt concrete tapers shall be ramped on a slope of 30:1 or flatter from the level of the planed or excavated roadway surface to the top of the cover of manhole. A commercial grade roofing paper or other suitable material shall be placed beneath the temporary ramps and tapers. Temporary asphalt concrete tapers shall be completely removed before placing the permanent surfacing.

The contract prices paid per each bid item for raise to grade of manholes or valve boxes shall include full compensation for furnishing all labor, materials, tools, equipment and incidentals necessary to adjust the covers. No additional compensation will be allowed.

The comment section of the spreadsheet lists some approximate number/location of manholes/valves is provided only as a courtesy to the contractor, it is the contractor’s responsibility to ensure that all manholes, valve boxes, etc. are located and raised to final asphalt grade. No manholes, valve boxes etc. shall be paved over.

The schedules are available at the City of Bryan’s website www.bryantx.gov or can be reached directly at the following link http://ims.bryantx.gov/waste/viewer.htm or obtained through the City of Bryan’s Environment Services Department.

The contractor is to work with the City of Bryan Solid Waste Division to make certain the impact to citizens is minimized. The city may be able to schedule pickup early on particular streets so that construction delay is minimized. The contractor is to work with the city as needed including scheduling, assisting in relocating garbage cans, etc.

Whenever city garbage collection trucks are denied vehicular access to residential curb side pickup the contractor must collect the filled cans from each property and locate them in an area accessible to the collection truck prior to scheduled pickup.

The contractor must also return the empty cans that day. Cans that are not addressed are interchangeable amongst properties. The contractor may want to note on the door hanger notifications that residential waste and brush and bulky pickup will occur on regularly scheduled days but that pick-up will occur as early as 7:00 a.m. during this time to facilitate construction.

SP22 FINAL CLEANUP AND GRADING:

All construction material shall be removed from all areas of construction at the end of construction. Clean up should occur no later than 3 working days from completing a street segment. The Contractor shall be responsible for removing all materials at Contractor’s expense. It is not acceptable to leave aggregate in yards or gutter lines.

Remaining aggregate should be swept to the center of the street and broomed or vacuumed up. All asphalt, oil and other material shall be removed from curb and gutter and residential property at completion of work. All areas bared by construction shall be sodded with the same grass as existed prior to construction. Sod will be paid for by the linear foot (curb line) and shall extend back to the extent needed to cover disturbed area.
