About this file

This file contains aggregate contract notes and material specifications for Pierce County, Washington, outlining new material additions and specification updates for road-specific aggregate materials used in construction and stormwater management projects. The contract opportunity seeks to establish sources of supply for crushed manufactured or naturally occurring aggregates, landscape bark, and topsoil that meet specified material and technical standards. New material additions to the contract include gravel borrow conforming to WSDOT specifications, streambed cobbles meeting WSDOT specifications, bioretention planting mix per City of Seattle specifications, and sand filter blanket or C-33 concrete sand. The materials are designated for pick-up only, indicating that suppliers will be responsible for providing the materials at their locations rather than delivery to project sites.

The specifications document details updates to existing material requirements, specifically addressing backfill for sand drains. The current specification based on WSDOT Standard Specification 9-03.13 is being replaced with grading requirements per Pierce County Road Operations Specification as outlined in the Stormwater Management and Site Development Manual. The new backfill material for sand drains must conform to specific sieve size requirements, with grading percentages specified for No. 4 through No. 100 sieves, ensuring proper drainage and compaction characteristics for stormwater management applications. All percentages referenced in the specifications are measured by weight.
