U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation Missouri Basin Region Billings, Montana March 2023
Request for Proposal (RFP) Solicitation No. 140R6023R0002
Kortes Elevator Modernization Build Pick Sloan Project, WY
Kortes Elevator Modernization Build Pick Sloan Project, WY
FOREWORD
The Bureau of Reclamation is a water management agency in the 17 western states. We are known best for construction of dams, power plants, and canals, including Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River, and Folsom Dam on the American River. Reclamation is the largest wholesaler of water in the country and second largest producer of hydroelectric power in the western US. Reclamation is organized into five regions (Missouri Basin and Arkansas-Rio Grande-Texas Gulf [MB], Lower Colorado Basin [LCB], California- Great Basin Region [CGB], Columbia-Pacific Northwest [CPN], and Upper Colorado Basin
[UCB]).
Kortes Dam is in Carbon County Wyoming approximately 60 miles southwest of Casper, Wyoming. The elevator is in the left abutment of the dam which is accessed through the Kortes Powerplant. The elevator provides access to the top of Kortes Dam where the Kortes Dam switchyard is located. This switchyard is operated and maintained by both the Bureau of Reclamation and Western Area Power Administration.
Kortes Dam is considered a remote location in Wyoming and very little infrastructure exists.
Communication is difficult outside of the established federal government systems at the site. The current elevator installation is of the 1950’s. There is known asbestos in the insulation of the car and floor doors.
The work is an Elevator Modernization.
