About this file

This is a Statement of Work for technical assistance services related to reduction gear troubleshooting on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SYCAMORE (WLB-209).

The Coast Guard seeks one qualified Field Service Representative with expertise in main reduction gear systems to provide technical advice and oversight during an inspection and troubleshooting effort at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. The work is investigative in nature, focused on identifying the source and extent of damage discovered during routine oil sump cleaning, which included ferrous metal shavings and a broken metal piece resembling a gear tooth. The FSR will provide expert guidance to ship's crew during system inspections, oversee and advise on component disassembly and cleaning procedures, evaluate gear conditions and associated equipment including coolers, pumps, heaters, and piping, and submit root cause analysis and inspection findings with repair recommendations to LTJG Marcos Saldarriaga. The contractor is explicitly prohibited from conducting actual repairs. Performance is scheduled for July 20-25 or no later than two weeks after award. The Coast Guard will provide all labor, tools, materials, parts, and support personnel, and is responsible for equipment de-energization, final testing, and safe work environment. The primary point of contact is CWO Frank Levitsky at (267) 374-9161, with LTJG Marcos Saldarriaga as secondary contact at (667) 419-5729.
