STATEMENT OF NEED
NRMJ3000-19-00679
PURPOSE:
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Chemical Sciences Division (CSD) Atmospheric Remote Sensing Group seeks to purchase a custom-built trailer to house the TOPAZ lidar system (along with supporting equipment and supplies) during field deployments both locally and in the field.
SCOPE OR MISSION:
The TOPAZ lidar system is a laser remote sensing instrument that has been widely deployed (with great impact) for studies of lower tropospheric ozone pollution throughout the U.S. The lidar is currently housed in a truck that is 30 years old, and it has become very difficult to maintain this vehicle in a safe and roadworthy condition. Additionally, we have determined that a larger operating platform would allow for the co-deployment of several instruments along with TOPAZ which would greatly enhance the datasets collected with this system. (These additional instruments include a Doppler lidar system and an atmospheric trace gas spectrometer.) By transitioning to a trailer system, we also reduce our vehicle maintenance burden and have the increased flexibility of a separate tow vehicle in the field. The trailer requires a number of customizations such as hardware on both the interior and exterior for instrument mounting, custom power distribution, and several ports, including a large hole in the roof for the optical scanner, to facilitate installation of the equipment, cables, tubing, etc. required by the systems.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
See attached specifications and drawings.
DELIVERY SCHEDULE:
Delivery of the trailer no later than six months from date of award if not sooner. Vendors are responsible for getting the trailer to CSD’s facility address below.
Shipping Address:
U.S. Department of Commerce/NOAA Attn: Raul Alvarez Shipping/Receiving Section 325 Broadway, BLDG 22 Boulder, CO 80305
