About this file

This is a Notice of Intent to award a Firm-Fixed-Price Purchase Order for the gentleMACS Octo Dissociator with Heaters (Contract Number 75N98026Q00559). The National Institutes of Health intends to sole-source this award to Miltenyi Biotec, Inc., in accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1. The gentleMACS Octo Dissociator with Heaters is required by the Women's Malignancies Branch to support research on aggressive breast cancer types, including Triple Negative Breast Cancer and breast cancer brain metastasis. The instrument is essential for generating viable single-cell suspensions from complex tissues, particularly brain tissue, which is critical for downstream applications such as molecular profiling, functional assays, and biomarker analysis. Without this capability, key components of approved research experiments cannot be performed effectively or reproducibly.

Small businesses—including 8(a) firms, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, veteran-owned small businesses, and women-owned small businesses—may submit a written capability statement demonstrating their ability to perform the requirement by 11:00 p.m. EDT on June 18, 2026, to david.shen@nih.gov. The Government reserves the sole discretion to determine whether to compete this award based on responses received. Award is anticipated approximately ten days after the notice date unless the Government determines that another vendor possesses the capability to meet the requirement. This is not a request for competitive quotes.

Notice of Intent: gentleMACS Octo Dissociator with Heaters

(75N98026Q00559)

In accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1, the National Institutes of Health intends to award a Firm- Fixed-Price Purchase Order to Miltenyi Biotec, Inc.

The laboratories in the Womens Malignancies Branch (WMB) focuse on aggressive types of breast cancer such, including Triple Negative Breast Cancer and breast cancer brain metastasi, with the goal of developing more effective therapeutic strategies. Our research aims to identify molecular pathways that are critical for cancer cell metastasis and to better understand inflammatory processes that regulate metastatic growth. To successfully perform and complete these studies, and to remain aligned with current scientific advancements, we require the purchase of the gentleMACS Octo Dissociator with Heaters, which is essential to support ongoing experimental studies and is required to carry out core laboratory procedures. This instrument enables the generation of viable single-cell suspensions from complex tissues, including brain tissue, which is a critical step in our current experimental workflows. Maintaining cell viability and integrity is necessary for downstream applications such as molecular profiling, functional assays, and biomarker analysis. Without this capability, key components of the approved research experiments cannot be performed effectively or reproducibly. By enabling consistent and high-quality tissue dissociation, this system will enhance the rigor of our research and accelerate insights into the biology of breast cancer brain metastasis.

This notice is not a request for competitive quotes. However, any available small businesses (e.g., 8(a), service-disabled veteran owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, veteran-owned small business, and women-owned small business) as stated herein may submit a written capability statement that clearly supports and demonstrates their ability to perform the requirement. A determination by the Government to compete this proposed award based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.

It is anticipated that an award will be issued approximately ten (10) days after the date of this notice unless the Government determines that another vendor has the capability to meet this requirement.

Please email responses to david.shen@nih.gov no later than 11:00 p.m. EDT on June 18, 2026.
