About this file
This is a Notice of Intent to award a Firm-Fixed-Price Purchase Order for a NanoZoomer S60v2 Digital slide scanner to Hamamatsu Corp. (Contract Number: 75N98026Q00365). The National Institutes of Health (NIH), specifically the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), intends to procure this equipment for use by multiple research sections including the Translational Neuroradiology Section, Viral Immunology Section, Experimental Immunotherapeutics Unit, and the NIH MRI Research Facility. The NanoZoomer S60v2 is a digital autoscanner that provides high-resolution imaging of histologic slides, eliminating physical storage needs while enabling preservation, accessibility, and detailed cellular-level analysis. The scanner includes integrated fluorescence imaging capabilities for detecting and visualizing fluorescently labeled targets, supporting applications such as staining quantification and morphometric analysis.
The Government has determined that Hamamatsu Corp is the only known responsible source capable of meeting these requirements under FAR Part 6.302-1. However, eligible small businesses—including 8(a) firms, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, veteran-owned small businesses, and women-owned small businesses—may submit written capability statements demonstrating their ability to perform the requirement by 7:00 a.m. EDT on May 24, 2026. Responses should be emailed to david.shen@nih.gov. The Government anticipates issuing an award approximately ten days after the notice date, unless another vendor demonstrates capability to meet the requirement. The determination to compete the award based on small business responses is solely at the Government's discretion.

Notice of Intent: NanoZoomer S60v2 Digital slide scanner
(75N98026Q00365)
The National Institutes of Health intends to award a Firm-Fixed-Price Purchase Order to Hamamatsu Corp.
In accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1, Hamamatsu Corp is the only known responsible source who can provide the products/services that meet our standards. No other source has been identified who can provide the requirements listed below.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) researchers of the Translational Neuroradiology Section (TNS), Viral Immunology Section (VIS), Experimental Immunotherapeutics Unit (EIU), and NIH MRI Research Facility rely heavily on histologic work for their ground-breaking scientific discoveries. Digital auto-scanners, such as the NanoZoomer S60, are known for their efficiency, preservation capabilities, accessibility, and analysis features. These scanners automate the process of scanning slides, saving time and effort while handling a higher volume of samples. By creating high-resolution digital images, they eliminate the need for physical storage space and ensure the preservation of samples for future reference. The digital format allows for easy access and sharing of slides, facilitating collaboration, and enhancing the dissemination of research findings. Moreover, the exceptional clarity and detail captured by these scanners enable preise examination of tissue samples at the cellular level, supporting detailed analysis, such as staining quanitification and morphometric analysis. This advanced autoscanner also features integrated fluorescence imaging capabilities, allowing for the detection and visualization of fluorescently labeled targets with high specificity. This is particularly valuable in research and clinical settings where the identification of specific proteins, structures, or biomarkers is critical.
This notice is not a request for competitive quotes. Hamamatsu Corp is the service provider.
However, any available small businesses (e.g., 8(a), service-disabled veteran owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, veteran-owned small business, and women-owned small business) as stated herein may submit a written capability statement that clearly supports and demonstrates their ability to perform the requirement. A determination by the Government to compete this proposed award based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
It is anticipated that an award will be issued approximately ten (10) days after the date of this notice unless the Government determines that another vendor has the capability to meet this requirement.
Please email responses to david.shen@nih.gov no later than 7:00 a.m. EDT on May 24, 2026.
