This is a Notice of Intent announcing a sole-source award of a Firm-Fixed-Price Purchase Order. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award the contract to FEI Company, the manufacturer of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Vitrobot vitrification system. The procurement covers a Vitrobot vitrification robot and associated clipping accessories (Contract Number 75N98026Q00200) for the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) to support structural biology research on ribonucleic acid (RNA), ribonucleoprotein complexes, and protein-RNA interactions. The Vitrobot system automates and provides reproducible preparation of cryo-EM grids by controlling environmental parameters including humidity, temperature, blotting force, blotting time, and plunge timing during vitrification. The purchase includes specialized accessories such as grid assembly tools and cryo-EM grid handling equipment required for compatibility with automated cryo-electron microscope autoloader systems.
The notice is not a competitive solicitation but invites written capability statements from qualified small businesses, including 8(a), service-disabled veteran-owned, HUBZone, small disadvantaged, veteran-owned, and women-owned small businesses, to demonstrate their ability to meet the requirement. Notice of Intent: Vitrobot Vitrification Robot and Clipping Accessories
(75N98026Q00200)
The National Institutes of Health intends to award a Firm-Fixed-Price Purchase Order to FEI Company.
In accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1, FEI Company is the only known responsible source who can provide the products/services that meet our standards. No other source has been identified who can provide the requirements listed below.
This order is to purchase a Thermo Fisher Scientific Vitrobot vitrification system and associated accessories, for the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) to conduct structural biology research on Ribonucleic Acid (RNA), ribonucleoprotein complexes, and protein–RNA interactions relevant to human health and disease.
The Vitrobot vitrification system provides automated and reproducible preparation of cryo-EM grids by precisely controlling environmental parameters such as humidity, temperature, blotting force, blotting time, and plunge timing during vitrification. The instrument enables consistent preparation of high-quality cryo-EM specimens necessary for structural studies performed on cryo-electron microscopes within the NIH cryo-EM facilities.
The requested purchase also includes specialized accessories required for cryo-EM grid preparation workflows, including grid assembly tools and cryo-EM grid handling equipment required for compatibility with automated cryo-electron microscope autoloader systems.
This notice is not a request for competitive quotes. FEI Company is the manufacturer. However, any available small businesses (e.g., 8(a), service-disabled veteran owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, veteran-owned small business, and women-owned small business) as stated herein may submit a written capability statement that clearly supports and demonstrates their ability to perform the requirement. A determination by the Government to compete this proposed award based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
