Question Answer

1. 2.3.1.4 2.3.1.3

2.3.1.4 Specifies DC Resistance 25

Ohms/kft/conductor, which #24AWG bare-copper meets, but 2.3.1.3 states Wire gauge shall be 20 or 22 AWG.

#22AWG stranded tin-plated copper, which has less than 17 Ohms/kft DC Resistance, seems appropriate, but please confirm acceptability.

2.3.1.4 Specifies DC Resistance 25

Ohms/kft/conductor (or less). Thus 17 ohms/kft would be acceptable.

2. 2.3.1.5 2.3.1.5 Specifies “Kevlar” type braided strength member. Braid shall envelope the twisted pair units.

Would a center strength for the breakout assembly be acceptable instead of the specified structure with braid and fairing over the Pairs?

The external Kevlar strength member is required. A single Kevlar braid that envelopes all 10 twisted pairs would meet requirements.

3. Would it be acceptable to construct the array with 8 Twisted Pair for hydrophones and 1 Twisted Star-Quad for the “4-wire” bus connections instead of 10 Twisted Pairs?

10 units of twisted pair wires are required.
